Golson supposedly ready to announce his choice on Monday...many will be shocked if it's not FSU.

Congratulations, Everett. Well Done. Your Notre Dame degree is the reward for recovering from your mistakes, for your perserverance, and for your positive contributions to the football program. Good luck in your future endeavors.

I will second those sentiments. His primary mission has been accomplished.

I'm glad of course that he came back and got his degree, and I'm sorry that he's leaving. But on the other hand I'm growing into the Malik Zaire era, he seems to be a real leader, something Golson was not. He seems to have fire and passion in his game, something that at least outwardly Golson didn't have. As a college QB he has a lot of upside.

Other news...Lacrosse Final Four is East vs West, Old Guard vs New Guys.

Notre Dame and Denver meet in the semi's and Maryland and Johns Hopkins meet in the other semi's. Interestingly, Johns Hopkins is for Lacrosse a Big 10 member as is of course Maryland.

I and every one of my friends would have given just about anything to have been able to stay another year at ND after we graduated. We loved the place. I guess he has so many places to go and so many things to do.

I was ready to move on from Texas, it was a fun school in a fun town..but I still had 4 more years ahead of me and I was eager to get through them and finally be done with school! :) Turns out you're never really done with school.

Jerry Tillery will be taking advantage of this program. Sounds like fun and a good learning experience, not sure how they justify 3 credit hours for 3 weeks of being in South Africa and learning about their issues and history. No tests, no papers, and for Student Athletes their scholarship covers everything but the spending money and air fare.

That's pretty cool. My brother-in-law in his profession has been all around the world several times over, including many months-long contracts for geological work in the S. Africa diamond mines. He likes the geography and the lifestyle so much that he once contemplated purchasing a retirement condo there.

What a nice way to earn 3 credits. :D

Although it says that the airfare is not included the footnote says
Perhaps this is covered with the new stipend athletes are getting.
In any event this is a great opportunity for the students. It also might be a great recruiting point.

I feel like Malik won the job on the field and Golson graduated, so good luck to him too. End of story.

The men's Lacrosse season came to an end in the Championship semi-finals. The gave against Denver seemed to be all over when Denver scored with less than 4 1/2 minutes to go up by 4 goals but ND staged a frantic rally and tied the score with 9 seconds sending the game into sudden death OT. Denver scored early in the OT ending the season for the Irish. Maybe next year we'll get to the Championships and not have to play a team that starts with "D"

I actually watched a lot of that game, gave up when we went down 6-4, at that point we hadn't shown any ability to do much in terms of scoring and I figured it was all over. I turned back to it from the golf tournament in morbid curiosity to see how we lost and we were ready to go to OT.

That Denver freshman won the face off, again, and we got the penalty and then they scored and it was over. I noticed some said we were screwed on the penalty, maybe so but even to this untrained eye we turned the ball over like Everett Golson was on the field.

Couple that with the late loss to Miami and it wasn't a good day for the Irish!

Lot's of rain here in Texas! It's safe to say the drought is over.

Also I found it odd that if you hurled the ball out of bounds it was still your ball. What's up with that.

I was at my grandson's JV baseball game, so I couldn't watch. I was getting score updates on my cell phone, and like Terry, I thought the game was over. After the game, I went to my car and turned on the radio (It was broadcast on a local station) and was shocked to learn ND had tied the game. On the way home, I heard the winning goal.

This team has a never-say-die attitude. They had some great comebacks this season, namely the Syracuse game at home which propelled us to the #1 ranking. I hope the football players paid attention to how this team refused to lose.

    Edit:

I just read that the Baumer family has endowed the Lacrosse head coach position, the second head coach position at ND to be endowed (Muffet McGraw, Women's BB).

The rule in LAX is that when the ball is shot and goes out of bounds, the first player getting to the line where the ball went out gains possession for his team. Since the offense usually has a player behind the net, the shooting team almost always gets the ball.
Sid, the endowment, while a nice benefit to the school, really is a way of a benefactor congratulating the coach. No two coaches at ND at this time are as successful as Corrigan and McGraw. A very nice compliment for their great success.

Denver easily defeats Maryland in the Championship game 10-5. Once again ND loses to the Champion in OT.

Naturally it's always great to make a final four in any sport, but you'd sure like to win a few more of them.
