Riviera? You're right, I don't know why I thought it was the L.A. Country Club. Riviera is a awesome track for the fans to watch, lots of interesting holes. Yeah that accident was really just awful for him and he's never likely to be the same guy that he was before the accident. At least when he crashed his car into a gate trying to get away from his wife and a 7 iron he only lost a front tooth!
Another brand of golf gear on the way. Tiger Wood's Sun Day Red line of golf gear. Will start with apparel sometime in the near future but will eventually include other golf gear, shoes and stuff. It's a crowded field, good luck to him. Nike, Under Armour, Foot Joy, Callaway, Peter Millar, Travis Matthew, etc .
Beautiful day and course in great condition. Patrick Cantlay is leading at -7, Jordan had a good day at -5, Scottie hasn't finished yet but is at -3, would be better but he continues to just miss those 10 footers. Tiger is +1, on 18 he hit a good drive was right there with playing partners JT and Gary Woodland but they hit shots to the green and he shanked one badly and had to make an incredible recovery shot to get a shot at a par but he missed the putt. Afterwards he said he had a back spasm in the middle of his swing and that was what caused it.
Oh...well that's what my problem is....since 1984. Back spasms. Wish I woulda figured that out sooner...I coulda been a contender...I coulda been somebody.
Jason Day lives right down the road from us....he and his father in law are actually good friends with my friend Nick who joined us here on Skybox (San Diego Kid or something?). Anyhow great day for Jason with a 6 under.
I remember reading that Day lived in Ohio so they could be near his wife's family. Most PGA players live in Fla or Phoenix it seems.
FWIW, Nate Dunlap had a solid 1st round finished at -1 and in the top 25. This tournament has a cut at the top 50 (including ties) and those within 10 strokes of the leader. So he has a decent shot at making the cut if he doesn't fall apart today. He finished dead last I think at Pebble Beach.
Watching and on hole 7 after his drive Tiger got into a golf cart and left, it appears he's with drawn from the tournament. He was +1 at that point, JT is +4. Nothing official but it certainly appears he's with drawn. His playing partners JT and Woodland played on.
#8 is a split fairway. At Barton Creek where I played with my brother at times, one of the 18's had a split fairway and I hated that hole.
Patrick Cantlay currently running away with a 4 shot lead, while it's unlikely that JT can make the cut. Sadly Nate Dunlap did not have a good day and shot 75 and will not make the cut. Life is going to be a bit tougher week in and week out for the young man.
Song for Nate... https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&opi=89978449&url=https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=-TUSAKLkVCo&ved=2ahUKEwjEtrrfr7GEAxWG38kDHU0fAy8QwqsBegQIOxAG&usg=AOvVaw04ijucy7dEOz_T47aIqnEH
I read this morning that Jordan Spieth was DQ'd after the Friday round for signing a wrong scorecard. How can this happen to a seasoned pro? From Sports Illustrated: LOS ANGELES -- Jordan Spieth was disqualified after the second round of the Genesis Invitational on Friday for signing an incorrect scorecard. Spieth, a three-time major winner, signed for a par on the 245-yard par-3 4th hole at Riviera Country Club, but he made a bogey after missing a 5-foot putt.
Things tightened up today, Xander, Will Zalatoris both went low and are at -12 compared to Cantlay's -14
Quite a back nine for Matsuyama, 6 birdies and 3 pars. His shots on 15 and 16 were just amazing. Meanwhile Cantlay was going backwards and couldn't find a fairway or make a putt. Zalatoris played well and has a couple of holes left to try and make up 3 strokes, but I'll be shocked if he can do it.
My favorite name in golf.... Hidecki....Mat....(wait for it)....SUYAMA!! 5 Bucks says this kid wins the Masters.
