Watching a college golf tournament that unusual in that the players are all from small colleges and black for the most part, it's in Dallas at an old Country Club , Cedar Crest, a course that is now a muni and has hosted Negro Pro Tournaments in the '50's. The field is both male and female, alternate holes of male and female fourseomes. January.[4][5] Established in 1916 and opened 104 years ago in 1919, the course is where a young Harry Cooper (1904–2000) honed his skills.[6] The country club was closed in 1929, changed ownership, and then was purchased by the city in 1946.[7] It hosted the United Golf Association Negro National Open in 1954, and the USGA's Public Links later that year. But what caught my eye was a young black lady, Emma Henningsson, who plays golf for the University of South Dakota, but she's from Sweden, go figure! But she was +3 going into the back 9 but played the last 7 holes in 8 under including finishing with a hole in 1 on the par 3 15th, an eagle on the par 5 16th, and then birdied both 17 and 18 for a back 9 of 28!! Thing was all those putts were not gimmie range she was unconscious with the flat stick to finish. Congrats Emma, she went from 9 behind to 1 back !
No. Knee healed pretty well but now have neuropathy issues. I think they were medication related for the most part but may take weeks for the medication effects to wear off, if ever. Haven’t played since mid April. Walking difficult and balance is terrible.
Keep grinding old buddy, I'm a believer. I see you back on the links before you know it! Take care of yourself
Thanks guys...and thanks, TOK for asking. Trying to keep a good attitude and getting out socially ok. Going on a Caribbean cruise with another couple in a few weeks...as long as I can take my cane and stumble from my cabin to the cigar bar I'll be fine.
Hero Challenge tomorrow from the Bahama's. Hey George, how long would iit take you to get there in the boat with the youngster as your Captain! It's the return of Tiger Woods who is confident he can still win and hopes to play a tournament every month. Which pretty much means he'll play all the majors.
Watching the Hero World Challenge. I have to say that is one beautiful and intimidating golf course. I don't think I could ever get out of all the sand on that course.
Saw Matthew Fitzpatrick 3 putt from 6 feet, I can do that! Saw Tiger make a terrible decision to not take a unplayable on #15 and decide he could make a hero stroke. His ball was up in a bush, and he moved it about a foot or so and then had to hit another recovery shot to get back to the fairway leaving him laying 3 about 300 yards from the hole. He made double bogey 7. It's described as the easiest hole on the course. Tiger is getting plenty of distance on his driver, most of his drives are 300+. On 18 he and JT were about the same distance in the fairway on the par 4. JT hit an 8 iron stiff, Tiger for some reason took a 9 iron and shockingly came up short!! They called it a bit of a ragged round. Shot 75
Jordan Spieth is -4 going to 18 and only has 4 pars in his round. I ssw him drain a 60 footer and miss a 4 footer leaving him a longer putt for a bogey.
Watching the Grant Thornton Invitational. It's been very good TV. LPGA player paired with PGA player. They played a scramble on the 1st day and the scores were really low with 56 leading in the club house. Today is alternate shot, one interesting this is the women really do play a different ball than the men and they had to chose. The pairing of Nelly Korda and Tony Finau ended up playing her ball as she said that Tony's ball is the lowest spinning ball on the planet. Tomorrow they play a modified 4 ball format where both players will tee off with their regular ball and then they have to switch balls with their partner and play that ball till it's holed and as always they count the lowest score on the hole for the team score. It's being played in Naples at a high end resort. Tiburon Golf Club at the Ritz-Carlton. Beautiful looking course.
