Checked a box today. Shot my age, I'm 77 and shot 76 today with 3 birdies and an eagle. Caveat, it was on a muni course that is par 70 and has a course rating from my senior Tee's of 68.3 and Slope of 114. Still counts though!! :D

In my book, there are no caveats when you shoot a 76, much less one stroke under your age. Way to go, Terry!

Was thinking about breaking 80 and didn't know I had a chance to shot under my age. Hit maybe my best drive of the day, it was a short par 5, hit the green in 2 and sunk about a 20 foot putt for the eagle. Then I started adding it up and holy batman I shot 36 on the back and 76. Color my surprised, pleasantly. :D:eek:

Jordan Speith had a great day, leads by 1 at -7 over Tom Kim who wore pedal pushers today instead pf pants but shot a 64 and is one shot back.

Both Rory and Scottie had good days and from what I could see Scottie hit some nice putts but couldn't get anything to fall as his putting continues to keep him from winning but not from playing well if you know what I mean. Jon Rahm failed to show today.

There are a ton of players at -4 and -3 so it's wide open as it should be after 1 round

Some Las Vegas gambler has written and book and he includes some stuff about Phil's gambling, which if true is shocking and makes you wonder how he became so hooked on betting. He seems to have a great family, wife, kids, etc...how did they not step in and put a lid on it.

Phil Mickelson bet more than $1 billion on football, basketball and baseball over the past three decades and even allegedly attempted to place a $400,000 wager on Team USA in the 2012 Ryder Cup in which he participated, according to an upcoming book by renowned professional gambler Billy Walters.

Book: Phil bet over $1B, tried Ryder Cup wager

The U S Women's Open is being played at Bel Air Country Club in L.A. They are into match play now in the round of 16, and 15 of the 16 are US players, 1 is from Australia. Now the LPGA is an international tour with the top players being from all over the world, including the US of course. So I sort of expected to see a different scoreboard, but maybe international Amateurs don't want to or can't afford to spend the money to come to the US and go through the qualifying stages to get to the finals.

Regarding Phil, back in 2002 the Ryder Cup was in my backyard. Heard secondhand from a friend who was a volunteer driver for players. He was shuttling a couple of team members around and they were talking about Phil and his gambling problems. He'd just signed a new deal with Calloway. Calloway agreed to pay off 5 mil. in gambling debts Phil had with a Vegas casino. Phil had a terrible cup driving wild often. Then too, the rest of the US team sucked that Cup too.

Sounds like Art Schlichter who was an Ohio State QB in the 80s, family lost their valuable farm land due to his uncontrollable gambling habits.

Lucas Glover goes back/back and wins the FEDEX/St. Jude. He played great, and had the lead and then lost it but got it back and won the playoff. I don't know much about him, except he's 44, and is the 1st 40 y/o player to win since Tiger quite a while ago.

Terry, is the Woodlands outside Austin. I think I played that. Had a lot of tees you had to climb up to. Also played Sleepy Hollow with son and his friend. Beautiful course up the Hudson Valley. Bill Murry is or was a member there. Great to see your nephew is still playing top golf. Doesn't the winner of the Mid Am qualify for the big one?

Matt has now played in the finals for the Jr. Am , the US Am, and now the Mid Am, he's also played in the 4 Ball final twice with his high school teammate and he's won the Houston Am Championship, He's played in the Crump Cup at Pine Valley for the last 4 or 5 years it's an elite invitational Mid Am event. He's won at Carlton Woods where he played with and beat Tony Romo, and also won the event at the Birmingham Country Club in Alabama. Along with the Nat'l Championship at A&M as a senior. So he's had a very good Amateur career you'd have to say.
