It's the week before Masters Week!! That means the Valero Texas Open! I have actually played that course several time, and that course has always whipped my ass. Too many sand traps, turtleback greens, snakes in the rough (when it's warm)....but it's very pretty!
2 Longhorns at the top of the Texas Open. Spieth is in at -5 and Scott Scheffler is in at -4. A lot of guys still out on the course so this could change.
Yeah he was due, has been playing well but hasn't been able to finish on Sunday. Today he finished. Has the winner the week before the Masters ever won the Masters?
While it was good to see Jordan get the win, that wasn't exactly an elite field that he beat this past weekend. Finau and Scheffler were the only World top 25 members in the field.
2021 Masters odds Dustin Johnson: 9-1 Justin Thomas: 10-1 Jordan Spieth: 11-1 Bryson DeChambeau: 11-1 Jon Rahm: 12-1 Rory McIlroy: 14-1 Spieth is maybe the best value play among the favorites unless you believe in McIlroy finding his very best stuff over the next few days. DeChambeau might be slightly overvalued given his relative lack of success at Augusta National. Thomas is also hot having just won The Players Championship for the first time in his career. Xander Schauffele: 22-1 Patrick Cantlay 22-1 Brooks Koepka: 25-1 Patrick Reed: 28-1 Collin Morikawa: 28-1 This tier is interesting because you could see some guys slide up here if Koepka withdraws as most expect. Morikawa at 28-1 seems undervalued, as does Cantlay at 22-1 considering the show he just put on at Austin Country Club (despite not getting out of pool play)
Spieth seems to have a case of the "lefts" during the final round. He won yesterday but seemed to kind of back in.
Kind of ties in with the field not being an elite field. Could he have done that if most of the World top 25 was in the field? Likely it might have been a repeat of some of his tournaments this year where he had the lead going into the final day and didn't get it done. I don't get why they have him one of the favorites at the Masters, I won't be shocked if he starts well and finishes poorly on Sunday.
It's my favorite week of the golf year. Already done a few fantasy teams with Draft Kings. Spieth is not nearly as highly regarded by them, Rahm is valued second after DJ. Finding lower rated players that can make the cut is the big challenge. I took Langer , with his small salary hoping he could play as well as he did last year.
I'm surprised at how they value Bryson...he's going again to try and over power the course and that didn't work very well back in late 2020 when he didn't even make the cut. Why he's going to try again I don't know except that I guess he's just determined that his style of play will work anywhere.
