To a man the #1 reason the defectors cite for joining LIV is the limited playing schedule that allows them to spend more time at home with their families. They don't want to play as much as they have in the past. These guys were all set for life before they jumped so that is somewhat a moot point but not wanting to play as much seems odd to me. What do you have? Maybe 25 years if you're lucky in the limelight playing the game at the highest levels? Of course the guaranteed money makes all that possible; its kind of Socialist Golf. Of course none of them address the source of all this money head on; I guess they feel that Saudi cash has been adequately laundered by the time it reaches their hands. My view is that the world travel to remote venues no matter how limited takes them out of the limelight. Out of sight-out of mind. I don't know how much they will like that after a while.
How many tournaments a year do these guys play in? They make their own schedule although majors and a few others are almost "musts." But seriously most are "off" the whole fall. Additionally, they have weekends free if they miss the cut meaning they only "worked" a two day week. Most of them use private jets and get home quickly. Bullcrap.
That's what I was thinking. How many PGA tournaments are they required to play in to keep their membership? If they wanted to play 2 tournaments a month, could they? I think what they meant to say is that they wanted the guaranteed money. Why compete if someone is going to give me 10's of millions of dollars upfront just to show up. Period.
I use to be a golf enthusiast, now I hardly can relate to many of the younger members. I only follow the majors now, but it's just not the same, maybe my age?
They have to play in at least 15 tournaments, plus there are money list requirements as well. I think you have to finish in the top 125 to maintain your tour card.
This whole thing reminds me of the CART/Indycar breakup. Ruined both series. I find myself completely uninterested in LIV at this point...maybe that will change.
I have no interest in LIV or in anyone who plays in that organization. I'm much more interested in paying $5.68 for a gallon of milk.
Golf Channel special on the history of the Open at St Andrews was really good. Arnie opened the flood gates for Americans to make the trip across the pond to play in the Open. 1960.
I watched some of the Irish Open and it was played at a really nice resort in the Thomastown area of South East Ireland, called Mount Juliet If I make another trip to Ireland I want to stay there, it was a beautiful track.
AJ, I learned via a google search. It's the Roman numeral for the number 54, The following quote from the search describes the significance of the number in the golf world: "The name LIV is a reference to the Roman numeral for 54, the score if every hole on a par-72 course were birdied and the number of holes to be played at LIV events." '
Tony Romo wins the American Century Championship in a playoff with Mark Mulder and Joe Pavelski. I always find it a fun tournament to watch. Anika Sorenstam fished tied for 4th with Adam Tielen.
Xander Schauffele wins the Scottsh Open and combined with his win at the competitive JPMcManus Pro AM in Ireland makes him a hot ticket going into The Open Championship.
Well thank goodness the Justice Dept. found something to investigate besides Jan.6, they're going after the PGA for anti-trust violations. The same government that took the livelihoods away from thousands of employees who wouldn't get vaccinated are championing millionaire golfers. I guess since Biden will have to kiss Saudi Arabia's ass for greater production of oil, he may as well use his gestapo to get on their good side.
Yeah that is a bit of a head scratcher why the DOJ would want to get involved in the LIV vs PGA Tour.
Wow, Cameron Young got out fast posted a 64! Rory right behind him at 66. Tiger ugh, +4 through 6! Have to have Peacock to see it right now.
