Setting up for an epic final day at The Country Club! Also I keep seeing that Victor Hovland, Colin Morikawa, and Xander Schauffle will be announcing for LIV on Monday.
I keep wondering what this is going to do to the Ryder Cup which is run by the PGA on the American side. Maybe the LIV guys can play in the President's Cup as Arabian players.
Getting to the nitty-gritty. 3 guys with a shot to win. Zalatoris, Fitzpatrick and Scheffler. Scottie missing the short birdie putt on the last par 5 is going to come back to haunt him.
Big error by Fitzpatrick off the tee on 18. Last thing the announcers said, avoid the bunkers on the left at all costs. Hooks it into the bunker of course. Needed AJ on the bag, wouldn't have handed him that club
Matthew Fitzpatrick gets not only his first win on the tour, but his first Major. Other than the bad tee ball on 18, and one other one earlier he was great. 17 out of 18 greens.
What impressed me most about that shot was how quickly he hit it. Grabbed his club, got into the bunker and just let it fly. In a golf rarity he joins Nicklaus and Julie Inkster as the only golfers to win the US Amateur and Open on the same course.
My nephew Matt Van Zandt played in that US AM Final that Fitzpatrick won. One Matt shot 137 and won, the other Matt shot 150 and had a good time. Look at some of the names on that list of guys who played in the 2013 US AM pretty impressive. 2013 US Amateur Final Results - Golf Tournament
Nick Faldo is retiring to his farm in Montana. Trevor Immelman will be his replacement. Last time in the booth will be Aug 7th at the Wyndham Championship. I liked Sir Nick.
Played golf today in a local Chamber of Commerce fund raiser. On a long Par 5 the Women's World Long Drive Champion was there at the tee box. If you made a $100.00 donation to the Chamber she could hit your foursome's tee shot and it would count. We dug deep and let her rip. She bombed one about 360 right down the center. Her name was Heather Manfredda. It was our best tee shot of the day.
