First match, first hole, Thomas gives a perfect demonstration of American Ryder putting completely missing the hole from about 10 ft. A great chance to win a hole goes begging.
According to a Golf Digest year-long study of all PGA events a few years ago, done by triangulation on the three most level greens each time, the pros on tour miss 67% of 10 foot putts. Myself...it's more like 95%. That stat for 10 footers didn't surprise me...but it did surprise me that they miss 17% of three foot putts.
The Spieth and Thomas pairing was supposed to be the Golden Ticket. They were 3-1 in Paris. But got down right away to the Euros and haven't been able to make any headway. Other 3 matches going well for the USA
3-1 USA after the morning matches. Same as in Paris. Did you see that shot Spieth made from down in the rough below the 16th green? Amazing. Didn't matter as JT missed the putt that would have kept the match going, but still an amazing shot. DJ and Colin Morikawa looking like a great pairing, they beat Poulter/McIlroy 5 and 3.
Interesting pairs this afternoon. Speith, Morikawa, Koepka and Berger sit and both DJ and Cantlay get new partners with Schauffele going from Cantlay to DJ and Cantlay picking up JT. JT didn't putt well in the morning so I thought he might sit in the afternoon.
He also hit a great shot on a par 3 where he snuck it in between Hatton and rahms ball to get inside both.
Had to lead a water aerobics class this AM and then played in a scramble. Caught up to most of the day's action but for some reason didn't record the last 2 hrs. Gonna have to watch tape tomorrow after the Irish-Whisky tilt tomorrow. Did see a replay of Bryson's incredible eagle. (603 yd. hole with a driver half wedge????) It seems to me that the younger guys have better nerves. We're better without the Mickelsons and Woods. Hope we beat Sergio and Rahm tomorrow....USA USA USA!
Anybody who's been watching the Cup think that the Euros are missing 67% of 10 footers? Hell, that's almost a gimme for those guys. Rahm has made more than 33% from over 40 ft.
