Roy was amazing today, I hope he holds it together tomorrow and wins the Green Jacket. I've not always been a big fan of his but I will be tomorrow.
Also given the drama last year at Pinehurst, the pairing of Rory and Bryson could be one for the ages.
Should be a fun day at the Masters. Maybe 6 golfers have a reasonable chance to win unless the leaders make a big step backwards. Romac has the lead and the pressure. Winning a Major is always an achiebment but the Grand Slam is so much more memorable. As usual, course management and putting will be the key. Should be a bombing display by the final group.
What a wild ride, started like he was going to fold right off the bat, then he righted the ship and it looked like a runaway, till he hit that crappy wedge into the water and he looked dead in the water. Then with a short putt to win it all he missed it, I thought he was done then. That wedge on the playoff hole was brilliant. Not a big Rory fan, but I was so glad to see him finally make that putt on the playoff hole and get the green jacket. Aberg played #18 like one of my 18's.
Rory confirmed the adage, the Irish have faucets behind their eyes. I haven't seen as many Masters or other majors as some here, but it's by far the most emotional finish I've ever seen. Also, I alsways have liked Justin Rose. Today I became a big fan. Class.
Rory always seems to live on the edge with his unpredictable golf game. I agree it was a very emotional end to the Masters, but I was happy to see him win.
Youre right KP. It's usually front left. The pin position yesterday was chosen to represent where it was when Nicklaus won I think in '75.
Well even if you were only a casual golf fan, this year's Masters probably kept you glued to the TV. Rory after a shaky front 9 with a driver living in the pine straw seemed to get it together. Then came the 11th and DeChambeau hit it in the water. All of a sudden aggressive Rory bacame conservative Rory. On 13 he hit 3 wood and then laid up. Then on a shot that every 90 handicap and below golfer could probably put on the green he hit an awful shot opening the door for Rose and Aberg. He followed that up by missing his Eagle putt after the shot that probably won the tournament on 15. I join Sid in saluting Rose. He did everything he could to win yesterday. He threw up 6 birdies on the back giving it everything he had. His birdie putt on 18 was really clutch. What's up with Scheffler? Usually the prior year's champ say a few words of congratulations to the winner. He put the jacket on Rory and left like he had to really piss. And speaking of other players, on the walk from 18 to the club house there are usually a lot of the other players along the way to shak hands with the winner of majors. The only 2 I recognized were Lowry and maybe Homa. Winning the Slam in golf is very difficult. Just ask Arnie. Rory joined a select few yesterday. It was a lot more than just winning The Masters. Best Masters for me since 46 yr. old Jack won in '86.
PGA Tour is going to allow range finders for the next 4 weeks. Hoping to improve pace of play. I don't think it's going to happen though. I don't know about your guys, but I play with guys all the time who have range finders and if they are slow players, they are still slow players. That said I think it's time that they allow them. Hell those course books have so much information anyway that it's not like the players are looking for distances on sprinkler heads and pacing off to their ball. I use a watch myself, it doesn't give me precise distance, but then I don't have a game that can use that information
Some range finders compute slope into the calculation. That might speed up things a little. Where it definately will help is when golfers are really wild off the tee and end up on another fairway. They usually don't have much yardage info there.
They have to disable any function like slope and if they don't it's a penalty, first time 1 shot, second time DQ.
Tour is at Harbor Town, a course I played several times when the family had HHI as a group destination.. It was more than a challenge to me with the narrow fairways, waste areas and pine straw. Not to mention it was cart path only all the time. But it's a beautiful course and it's alway fun to watch the pro's deal with it. JT was pm fire today, shot 61 with a bogey on the card. Scottie is 3 shot's back. Interesting to note that the 2 of the early stars from last year, Nellie Korda and Scottie, are playing well but instead of being multi-tournament winners this time last year they have zero wins between them. On a personal note I broke a car window yesterday. Hit a monsterous slice that cleared some apartments along the right and shattered the rear window of a lady's car just pulling out of her parking slot. She wasn't happy with me of course, but we got it fixed and it cost me 200$. Oh well.
$200 is pocket change for a retired dentist. Seriously, while annoying, it's not a bad price to pay under the circumstances. A dent would have cost much more.
