Phil was the wire to wire winner in his first ever Champions Tour event. He's going to play one more before the US Open.
Nobody under par! You have to wonder if a + score will end up winning. When was the last time that happened?
So it wasn't more than a month ago that Bryson DeChambeau was the new face of golf, unbeatable...now he's limping into the finals at East Lake. He didn't make the cut in Boston, and if there was a cut this week he wouldn't make it either. He will be at East Lake though.
Well John Rahm has a great day and heads to a playoff with Dustin Johnson. That penalty stroke yesterday for not marking his ball before picking it up cost him the outright win. What a putt by Dustin though on 18! Good final round, the kid from Chile, looked to be in control for awhile but just couldn't keep it up. As always some of the battles for the 30th slot are almost as interesting.
I'm having a tough time watching sports on TV except for golf. The NHL in Aug. in empty arenas is difficult to watch and I don't even try with the NBA or BB. I'm really looking forward to ND football in 12 days.
LPGA will allow caddies to use golf carts for the upcoming ANA Inspiration at Mission Hills. Temps are expected to reach 105-115 degrees. Players will still have to walk. In a memo to players and caddies that went out on Thursday, LPGA Chief Tour Operations Officer Heather Daly-Donofrio wrote: “Projected temperatures next week will range from 105-115 and we are very conscious of the high heat. 2020 has been the year of health and safety, and with that in mind, we will be allowing caddies to take carts for the week.” The cart rule isn’t mandatory. Some will choose to walk and carry the bag as always. Push carts are also an option for caddies. Players may ride in carts during practice rounds but must walk during tournament rounds. Kind of interesting, on ESPN they have posted the scores at the Tour Championship through 2 rounds ignoring the staggered starts, like Dustin Johnson starting at -10. So right now he'd be 5 shots back of Im and Schauffle not 1 shot in the lead.
I remember a couple of years ago. Tiger won the tournament but Justin Rose won the Fedex Championship. There are 2 separate contests going on.
Dustin doing well today 5 under for round today going to 16 and 18 under for the tournament currently a 5 shot lead.
Dustin rolling today, shot 64 and is 5 shots clear of Justin Thomas and Xander Schauffele. BTW they keep bringing up that Schauffele has 13 of 14 rounds in the 60s at East Lake the other was an even par round of 70. I'd say this course fits his eye!
In terms of total score without the extra strokes given for standing in the Fedex cup...Dustin started -10. Xander Schauffele is leading Dustin by 2 strokes. If Dustin wins I hope he is able to pass him and get both the lowest actual score and adjusted score.
Well for awhile it looked like DJ was going to cruise to the title, but the last few holes have seen some bogies and strokes given back, went from 5 shot lead to a 3 shot lead going to the back 9. JT is playing well and looks like the most likely to run him down.
15 is one scary shot. Long and you either hit the green or you are likely in the water. 17 at Sawgrass at least is mostly a short iron shot, at East Lake they are using mid to long irons.
Dustin Johnson, wire to wire win and is the FedEx Cup Champion. Playing really really well right now.
