Did anybody just here Faldo and Finch talking about quick downhill putts?...Finch said off the toe....Faldo said said his right thumb?!!...WTF is he talking about?...he said a 1/2 inch here or there?....
Just did a rewind...he said he'd watch his right thumb instead of the putter head....1/2 inch back?...I'm still lost. ANYBODY?
I'm partial to the spin out. Usually leaves me with an 8 ft uphill sideways roll on the way to another 3 putt.
John Rahm sort of running away with the tournament right now -14 and closest is -7 (Ryan Palmer). They have some weather coming though that could change things.
I just saw that Jack and his wife have both had Covid back in March, they were cleared in mid April. Jack said he had a sore throat and cough. Said he has the antibodies. Now I understand his saying he was willing to shake hands with the winner if they wanted. He says he can't transmit it or get again, although not everybody thinks that is a sure thing. Glad he and Barbara recovered and seem in fine health, both in their 80's.
Got a little shaky for Rahm on the back nine, Palmer had a put to take what was an 8 shot lead to a 2 shot lead but didn't make it, then Rahm semi-flopped a chip from some gnarly looking ruff into the hole and it was over. I'll have to say that the PGA tour has been pretty successful in managing the return to play. They have had some players test positive, but that was to be expected. But overall the tour players till now at least have been avoiding the virus. I do notice though that some things are slipping. At first they were saying the player would have to get his own clubs in and out of the bag, they would maintain social distancing from the other players in their group and their caddies. That seems to have pretty much gone away as you can see from this photo. I do seem a lot of fist/elbow bumping, but really not much social distancing. But never the less they are being successful in getting the tour back on track.
PGA Championship, usually the last one on the card is now the 1st one. Harding Park is a Muni with a beautiful view. Koepka is the defending champion, he played well last week at Memphis and maybe that's a good tune up for him to make it a 3-peat. Koepka, Justin Thomas, Dechambeau, Rahm, McIlroy, Webb Simpson, Dustin Johnson...all names who will come up, but the PGA Championship always seems to be the one with the winner making you say...who is that? Some club pro will have a good first day and get some attention, then shoot an 89 and be gone!
"Talking to some of the guys yesterday, they were laughing at their TrackMan (a measuring device) numbers already. They don't have the swing speed or ball speed they did last week. It's just the way it is. It's going to be playing longer. It's heavy air weather and whether the wind blows or not, it's still going to be heavy. The ball doesn't fly very far here." See this is why it's better to play in Neb in the summer time...ball goes further!
Martin Kaymer out to -5 and the current lead... he's sort of disappeared after winning that PGA in 2011 and eventually being the #1 ranked player. He did win the US Open in 2014.
Well Jason Day is in the Clubhouse with -5, but there are the afternoon groups still out on the course so somebody else could go low. Dechambeau is -1 after 3 holes...lot of golf left for him.
Kind of unusual situation yesterday, Dechambeau broke his driver, but was allowed to replace it. Usually when a player breaks a club it isn't replaced unless it's deemed an accident which this was.
#11 par 3 ~ 200yds. Rickie Fowler 6 iron 10 feet short, Bryson 7 iron 6 feet long, Adam Scott 5 iron pin high left. How's that for a spread on club selection. TOK, 3 hybrid 10 feet short.
Off topic I guess but 40 years ago or so I was bowing in leagues and doing pretty well. A lot of the people I worked with played golf and my dad had taken the game up so I bought a used set of clubs and played a little while. However in a very short time I have the game up as my golf score was going up as fast as my bowling score and I hated getting up early on Sat morning. Just wasn't my game.
