What many fail to see is that the SEC teams and their fans truly believe that by virtue of playing in the SEC, their schedule is already tough enough. The internet will allow you to tune into a great many regional sports talk shows. Don't just listen to the callers, or the on-air personalities as I am sure people will just write them off as nuts... although a casual trip to the barber shop or a run to your local Walmart in these parts will yield the same exact opinions.. listen to the coaches when speaking to the locals.

They honestly believe this. They laugh off the notion that conferences like the Pac10 are anywhere near as good as the SEC. The really believe that year in and year out, the best of the best from other conferences are no better than the 3rd place teams in their divisions.

    On field results be damned.

My thoughts...Before the 12 gm. schedule I was ok with the way everything played out...two patsies and F$U every year. I realize that we have Miami on next years schedule but, I would love to add a home/home with a mid/major program.USF is an up and coming program so I don't consider them a patsie but, this slot could be filled with a nice OOC game.

    "On field results be damned"

It is precisely those results that have the SEC where it is....winning the last 4 straight BCS titles will tend to do that.

USF beat FSU at Tally last year by 16-0 I believe.

    It's a very decent non-con game.

I too though wish we would have scheduled something different than the canes as a change-up

I also wouldn't mind at all if we dropped FSU and went with an out of region home and home once in awhile.....especially if Jimbo ressurects the noles to more prominenece....

I found that statements to be pretty interesting ... given the only 3 teams to have their schedule ranked in the top-20 in 8 of the last 10 seasons were SEC teams ..... and that 8 of the 24 listed in the analysis were SEC teams; that's 2/3rd of the conference.

Here's a breakdown of the analysis by conference - # teams included and the average ranking with the 24 listed:

    SEC - 8 - 11.9
    Big 12 - 7 - 15.1
    PAC - 4 - 12.5
    ACC - 3 - 6.3
    Big-10/11/12 - 2 - 15.0

If Corey's generalization is somewhat accurate .... I don't listen to the sports-talk shows .... I wonder why?

A small thread hijacking and a question for KP

There have been several local blogs and a story in the Detroit newspapers talking about Michigan playing Alabama in 2012 at Jerry Jones' palace being a deal ready to be made.

Have the Bama blogs and papers mentioned this?

Bobda, I have seen this referenced on ND and Texas boards as well, most likely from the same source as you quote.

Jerry Jones is going after college games in a big way, he most likely has a rather large payment to make on the complex that can't be satisfied by Cowboy games alone.

ND/Arz State will be playing there sometime in the near future.

That elitist think coming out again TBD?
I got some news for you: They are one heck of a team no matter what qualifiers you choose to place on them.

Not sure about the meaning of your post Tom.

I am pointing out how tough Bama has it this year with the way the 6 byes have shaped up for their opponents.

In Georgia's year of being ranked preseason #1 ( 2008) I remarked how they could not survive playing LSU in BR the week before Florida.....and I was spot on with that result.

I am saying that the Tide will be most impressive if they can thrive on this year's schedule.

If this pans out, that would mean Michigan's schedule in 2012 could possibly involve Alabama, Ohio State, Penn State, Notre Dame, Nebraska, Michigan State, Iowa, and Wisconsin depending how they split the divisions.

    We be roadkill.....

    It's not a generalization.

You're falling back on a rankings system that is clearly flawed. Is there anyone here who doesn't start with that premise? If so, we've found our own little nest of college football snowflakes who deems this system to not be deeply flawed.

It really is the beauty (if you admire good bullsh*t the way I do) of the super conference system. Any one conference is going to have a 1st, 2nd, 3rd etc place team etc along with records that reflect that.. just playing themselves you will wind up with X number of teams with very good records..

By having 2 divisions, you are going to wind up with not one, but two 'champions' with elite level records usually. You will wind up with 2 2nd place teams, 2 3rd place teams etc.. all justifying their 'on field results' and certainly bolstering the claim to incredible greatness.

No one denies the greatness of the elite teams in the SEC, it's that the conference is so much deeper and greater than any other conference that is beyond suspect.

You can whistle past the graveyard all you want but when a very mediocre UCLA team beats Tennessee in back to back years.. That seems to get forgotten. When Wyoming beats the Vols in Neyland, that gets a 'mulli'.. when SEC super power Georgia needs last second heroics to be a bottom dwelling Arizona State team, we write it off as 'it's early.'

When USC performs a prison rape on (then) SEC elite Auburn, it is written off as 'we coulda got em next year.'

There's been 2 games in which Alabama has lost in the past 2 seasons.. One in a nail biter that Florida out classed them in, and then the absolute ambush by Utah in which the Tide took 5 to the jaw and never caught their feet.

Your fans are insane, your women are beautiful, your facilities are second to none and the media loves you... that doesn't mean a hill of beans when the teams line up.

Is that the only examples of PAC10 vs. SEC we have to go on?

Hmmm....I could see how you draw that conclusion.....and it was Arkansas....not Awbun.

And....Wyoming may be the reason Fulmer is no longer coach....

UCLA was pasted in a bowl game by Florida's patsy annual non-con foe FSU.

I 've been over the Arkansas 2006 game before and they were 10-4....hardly SEC elite but USC was indeed pretty damned good in those cheatin days....hardly the middle of the PAC 10 pack.

Otherwise LSU has beaten some Pac 10 teams...including 45-3 over Az, Ga has split with ASU and Tenn has indeed been outpointed by UCLA twice.....but Tenn has not been the Tenn we know...and you know.

No points have been made by your posts in other words.

I think he's referencing the 2003 23-0 defeat of an 8-5 Auburn squad. I don't know how that game influences the difficulty of UF's schedule over the past decade but ............................. well, I don't know what point is being made other than the fact the USC-w was 23 points better than Auburn that year in that game. USC-w was a very good team .... all things considered.

USC was a great team.....all things considered.

The Arky team that was pasted by USC in 2006 was playing with a future NFL top 5 draft pick Darren McFadden who had a fractured foot that night.

Corey loves to bring that up because the Hogs went on win the SEC West in a down year for the West.....but.....with the loss to USC... Arkansas was a very un-elite like 4-9 in it's last 13 games.
