Yes it was George and thanks. But I have to admit it wasn't as big as the one Notre Dame had yesterday. I imagine your coaches will be tuned into the SEC Championship Game next week?
Bill that was a great effort by your Gators. Well deserved win and I finally saw some of the Jeff Driskell that I thought I would see this season. Future looks bright for your offense next year, defense won't have to do it all! Congratulations.
Thanks Terry and like I said to George that win for Notre Dame yesterday was really big, now you guys have about 5-6 weeks to prepare.
Congrats Bill and Gator fans (silent or otherwise) on here. Watching FSU lose is always fun. I have some real questions about FSU that I'm just not getting answers for and it's actually bothering me haha. 1. They are talented, that can't be denied. 2. They looked scared and rattled right out of the gate...at home.. how? 3. They are still undisciplined. It's more than a Bowden tradition. 4. 2 and 3 lead me to...is Jimbo really a good head coach? 5. Will they always look like the latter years of the Bowden dynasty? That's what I can't shake. Their schedule was an absolute joke. Their conference was not good. They roll up a nice W-L record, but they remind me a lot of Bobby's latter teams still. That isn't a knock on the Gators at all. The talent level of the 2 teams is right off the chart. Where the Gators have shortcomings, I can at least see the process and the progress of what the program is trying to accomplish. With FSU, I just see talent running around like their hair is on fire.
Pretty good assessment of the state of FSU's program right now. I think they have improved this year but playing that ACC schedule doesn't prepare them for playing elite teams and they can't seem to turn the corner. Fisher does provide consistency though and they still recruit well so it may yet happen with him there...... or not. I prefer the..... or not.
ha! that makes sense. So, I am guessing they'll just continue to recruit like crazy and schedule lightweights in concert with their ACC slate hoping that they can finish unbeaten in years in which everyone else loses? That's risky, especially with the playoff right around the corner.
In Bowden's great run of 14 straight top 5 teams and same number of major bowl wins, his non-conf schedule was always very tough, he built that program on we'll play anybody anywhere.
That ACC slate would have killed the noles his year had they beaten Florida. 11-1 with only an ACC Championship game left to play vs. 6-6 Ga Tech and no chance to crash the BCS Title party... which was downright impossible anyway with two SEC once beatens vying for the one available spot. By the way....I'm sure you may have noticed that the SEC wasted the ACC in the 4 head to head match-ups on Saturday. I think that means that the ACC does suck..... and maybe the SEC is pretty tough. I am looking forward to seeing the ND-SEC match-up as I am sure you are as well. I don't think this year's SEC Champion will be quite the finished product as Bama was last year or as strong as Bama '09 or UF '08 but still it will be a tough out for the Irish..... as will the Irish be a tough out. I have seen more than one article in which ND is compared to Florida in terms of tough defense and just effective enough on offense. That should bode well for a very competitive game.
That is precisely what made FSU a special program. Once they hunkered down and started to compete with the Virginia's and NC States of the world their pedigree went to hell in a handbasket. Are they still a tougher than average team to beat? Heck yes.....especially in Tallahassee but I just don't see the noles as elite as they once were.
WSU I guess you fully expect the rest of the college football world to school the lowly SEC in the coming bowl season right? Well ok then. 8)
As I say... results will be coming in about a month that might just clear this up a little. I do understand that the SEC front office is afraid to let Florida play Oregon so they are endeavoring to get The Big East champ or possibly even Kent State to play the Gators. The UF AD has said UF will kick in a million of the Sugar Bowl take to get this deal done.....
Well if UF regresses on offense again, then Kent State just needs a better punt protection unit and they'll have a shot at beating you.
If UF plays down to the opposition like they have been prone to do then Kent State would be a dogfight.
In the Vandy game we had several injuries to our offensive line and that is a area where we lack depth. We struggled in the games after that because of the lack of depth on the line. Sat they were all back and we saw the difference.
Terry, Like Dave pointed out (do note, I am giving Dave credit), once Bowden established the monster.. they joined the ACC and their pursuit of monster noncons was finished. They played out their contractual obligations and began to replace them with FCS or subpar teams. In doing so, they seemed to lose that killer instinct.
One thing of note on playing FSU is that even though they have been mediocre for the past 10 years they have only lost 19 games in Tallahassee..... 4 of those to Florida and 1 to Notre Dame.
Who were those wins against? -A bunch of shitty ACC teams -Florida twice -BYU (hold on now because the list of wins gets ugly) -UAB twice -Samford -La-Monroe -Charleston Southern -Jacksonville State -Western Carolina -UT-Chattanooga -Colorado -Troy -Rice -Syracuse -Western Michigan -the Citadel Not exactly murderer's row....
