I don't think upsets vs. Ole Miss/MSU are a reflection of how good Florida has been in SEC 2.0 as much as UF's 4-2 record vs. Bama in SEC CGs says about UF's abilities. There are many more facts in UF's favor in the article.......than against. "or even last year..." Hey....USC may have beaten Fla in some years....but last year I doubt it. My opinion of course but that was a strong Gator team and the Trojans....as did OU would have had the Gator's full attention unlike Ole Miss did.
The Trojans would have blown the doors off and shut down Oklahoma. I mean that sincerely. I'd have taken that bet all day long. How did Ole Miss not have Florida's full attention? Unless of course, even the Gators realize that a loss doesn't eliminate them from the title run. Something else worth mentioning regarding UF's run thru the SEC (or lack of run if you're talking about the SEC West). Aside from the 7-0 vs Arkansas (a pac10 punching dummy), the most impressive record Florida has vs the West is the 12-5 vs LSU. However, even that doesn't tell the full story. In that 17 year span, Florida won 9 of the 1st 10 In the past 7 years, Florida is 3-4 vs LSU.... You hammered the DiTardo and Curley Hallman Tigers, but that changed with Saban and Miles... although I believe Miles may be returning the Tigers to 'form' of years gone by...
"Florida is 3-4 vs LSU...." In that span LSU won two national titles so obviously they were no slouches. On Ole Miss.....they turned out to be a pretty damned good team...a fact pretty much unknown in Sept. as they went into a noon game vs. UF as a huge underdog...
Re LSU's titles: During one title, there were 2 other teams that managed to beat them that year. You couldn't manage to do what Kentucky and Arkansas managed to do. LSU's other 'title year' was the year that caused the AP to pull out of the BCS because their NC was USC and the almighty BCS couldn't get the real title game together. BTW, you beat them in one of those 'NC years' so it is still pretty much a wash. It's not like 2 of those 4 losses came in title years. Removing those seasons still makes it 2-3. And it is true, they were no slouches.. but when we're talking dynasty, you beat the good, great and the slouch.. Re Ole Miss: yeah they turned out to be a pretty damned good team that was also beaten last year by: Wake Forest, Vanderbilt, South Carolina and Alabama. You do realize that as of October 19th of last season, Ole Miss had played 7 games... losing all of them except for their 3 wins.. Samford, Memphis and Florida. It isn't like they caught you while they were 'red hot' which is what everyone claims they were at the end of the year. The week before they beat you, they lost to Vandy. The 2 weeks after they beat you, they lost to SCAR and Bama. I like how you dismiss 6 losses spanning 17 seasons as 'upsets'... Why aren't your 6 wins upsets? My point started in the micro long ago and has now grown into a macro example of the flawed media representation of the SEC and the very hypocrisy of the BCS system. People are afraid of the playoff because the 'hot team' will win the title but they are willing to pin it all on a single game propped up by their marketing efforts. You guys have a great club and clearly one of the better programs in the country over the past 20 years.. but dynasty?? That may be a bit of a reach, and for that Gator author to totally ignore the fact that you are good, but far from dominant (esp in the past 7 years) stacked up against the SEC West is a bit disingenuous.
Yikes I didn't think it could be easier than Matt Leinart's ballroom dancing class his last semester...that was his only course. But Tim Tebow goes it 1 step lower. Now both these guys graduated, or in Tebows case will graduate so good for them. But I personally think that all athletes should be full time students and required to enroll and pass 12 hours...maybe as few as 9 hours. Tebow
