Wow, our most important win in a long time and against our oldest in-state rivalry on the last time we matchup, can't ask for more, can I..... It was a great win but we are not a great team. Hats off to the Gators defense, they are impressive. I have lots of questions on the Gators offense but can't thank them enough for the gifts they brought us with the turnovers. I'm not even sure the most talented team won today but gotta say our much maligned defensive front was damn impressive and stuffed the critics who have wore out just how bad they were last season. Are the Canes back, well we have finally made it to the waiting line and the waitress has handed us the vibrating mechanism to let us know when we can be seated but we are not dining in the "Stateroom" any time soon.....I am a happy camper and happen to be in G-ville visiting my son who is a UF student as we watch the game. The consensus is I am not allowed to leave his apartment because my happiness will lead to an altercation and this just won't do......But hey, what else would you expect from a Hurricane..... GO CANES.....
This may well wind up being a turning point for Miami. One thing the great Canes teams did was win. They just found ways to win even when they were out played. They've had talent for a long time, but they've been finding ways to lose. They might have turned that corner. Congrats Ralph. As you know well, I'm a big believer in your coach. I think good things area ahead for you guys.
Thanks to everyone who was kind enough to wish a good win against Florida. Lol, I had to kinda, sorta, try to suppress my emotions while watching this game in an apartment building complex housing 1,500 current UF students, I failed of course and laughed "in love" as my son now sporting a new UF ball cap pulled for the Gators...To be honest I am watching the replay on TV, we pulled out and grabbed lunch after the Canes went ahead 7-0 because my nerves and mouth were not doing anybody anything positive while watching the game. I pulled this article off GatorNation in what I think best describes yesterdays game...Corey is right, this might just be the game that after a decade of futility the Canes have discovered how to win even when out played in-between the red zone...We are far from being mentioned as a possible contender in some future championship game but between Goldens recruiting and understanding we can indeed win against talented teams we are slowly coming back into prominence. I just hope it is in Golden's image and enough to do it with class and integrity... I will gloat just a little because I did not know this stat and it blows me away knowing Florida and its athletic budget and talent...The Gators are, after all, 3-12 in their last 15 against the 'Canes. Holy crap, I had no idea and this is amazing with what has transpired to UF's talented run on the national scene... http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/um-hurricanes/os-mike-bianchi-florida-gators-miami-0908-20130907,0,3284270.column
All that talent that Urban left, all the HS AA's that picked the hat, and still, the Gators lost to the Crimicanes.....I have lost all hope.
I knew before I looked that in the last 35 years or so..... dating back to a long UF win streak against bad Miami teams in the 70s..... that Miami has rarely caught UF's best shot..... meaning our better teams. When they have..... they often were beat. 2008, '82, '83, '85 Miami's best wins over UF during that time were this one this year, the 2001 Sugar Bowl ( probably the Cane's best win over UF ever ) and then in 1984. Otherwise the U beat teams for UF in '78 thru '80 ... lousy to average UF teams, '81 ( Peach Bowl team ), '86/'87 ( lousy to average ), and the Zook years '02-'04. Not making excuses..... and again the Canes just had a great win.....congrats again on that.... but the 3-12 record is not indicative of a bunch of wins over dominant Gator teams.
Hey on TEXAS boards they are making up lists for the new coach and Muschamp comes up on most of them>
I believe that WM is happy to be back in his roots. But..... who knows if he feels heat from someone on the inside. I doubt it..... but you never know. Plus no doubt Texas can sweeten the pot considerably for anyone they set their sights on. I would hate to see WM go because he fields NC type defenses and if he ever can land big play WR types his teams could dominate.
Actually given the offense that Muschamp has put on the field so far, I hope he does not come to Texas.
WELL, HERE'S A LITTLE RECAP OF LAST YEAR......... Alabama beat Arkansas and Arkansas fired their coach. Alabama beat Tennessee and Tennessee fired their coach. Alabama beat Auburn and Auburn fired their coach. Then Alabama beat Notre Dame, and the Pope resigned....... How do we get the White House to play Alabama?????
Can't blame you there Terry. Most Gator fans feel that Muschamp is too "hands on" the offense.... and doesn't let a guy like Pease for Boise St. really and truly call the offense. That said..... I wish it was Muschamp calling the redzone offense last Saturday on 4th and inches and on 1st and goal at the 7. In both of those cases we should have been pounding away with Matt Jones and/or Mack Brown. Zero points on both series.... Dammit
Spoke to a couple Bull Gators today (Bull Gator membership requires an annual contribution of $15,000 or more.) about Saturday's game and I knew they would be upset with the loss but was taken back with their discontent with Muschamp. Supposedly at a meeting after the Toledo game words were thrown around with how poorly the offense is performing and his long term tenure as coach. He went on to say that he guarantees there was a meeting with Muschamp Saturday night and it was not going to be pretty. Hell I think he is a great coach with a few issues offensively to iron out but definitely as good as it gets defensively...I am naive evidently because he is so respected...Then again I'm not handing out $15K or more per season on the Gators.
Muschamp recruits well..... and especially recruits elite defensive players who are starting to pile up at Florida and it shows. It has appeared for the length of his stay at UF that he tampers with the offense.... molds it to his preference. Maybe he does.... maybe he doesn't but it is an attack that does not excite much..... but it has been a winner most of the time. It does not however have allowances for sloppy play and TOs vs. good teams.... that usually results in a loss. I think the majority of Gator fans support WM and would be very disappointed if he left so I don't like to hear what you posted.
Maybe it's the same booster or boosters that caused Urban to have chest pains? Alabama's success certainly couldn't have anything to do with it.....or does it?
What I also saw last Saturday also was a hint of desparation (2 pt play in the first qtr) and clock mismanagement on Florida's part. Maybe it was a bad day but I do think those things cost you. Trick plays when you should have the edge in talent, I think, can erode self confidence. 8)
I have not spoken with anyone who understands the thinking behind the 2 point play. As kp mentioned you have an advantage in talent, you just scored and demonstrated its not a problem to do, then you give Miami the momentum back by not getting the 2 points..The time management with Driskel with less than a minute to play was painful to watch, lots of confusion..
