I have worn Gator gear at Detroit area events and received the same reaction.....it's all in good fun except for the one A-hole that came up in my face and wanted to fight because because UF went to the BCS title game in '06 instead of the recently beaten Michigan squad.

Otherwise I got what I expected and it was fun.

I had the good fortune to attend last years Miami/Florida game at the swamp last year with my 17 year old son. We gave the Gators hell with screams of "Gay Gotors" instead of the normal "Go Gators" all night long along with other classified jargon as we enjoyed the game. The Gators never bothered us even though we were in the Gator section of the swamp. We did get some looks but we respected where we were and appreciated the Gator fans for the love of their team, which is pretty incredible.

That being said I work in an industry that is predominately full of UF graduates and they do have a very hard time seeing anything other than Orange & Blue. Or as one of my close Gator friends told me years ago: The Gators really have never lost a game its only the factor that they did not play up to their potential and in no way was the opposing team better than we were...

What do you say to that???..... Gay Gotors!!!!

    MCG,

I probably should not have commented. I have been the recipient of these "friendly" chants... not just by Gators. I don't care for it.

I go out of my way to show respect to the opponent rather than trying to get into someone's face. And excuse me, but when you state:
... that brings visions that I am all too familiar with. You have to know that the definition of assailing is: To attack with or as if with violent blows; assault.

Poor choice of words or not, you posted that as if you were proud of it. That would be reprehensible. The Texas Long Horns t-shirt had just as much right to be there as Gator stuff did. After all, it was a NFL Tampa Bay vs Texans game.

I believe I offered that I had a poor choice of words with "assail".

In any event if you don't get what I am saying about Texas being a long term target and/or objective for Florida and the fact that Gator fans thought the whole thing was somewhat amusing I think it is because you would rather choose to initiate conflict and react negatively.

    Your choice I guess.
