You are right I don't remember anything about a bad spot for the Gators. I just remember that there was pretty much a consensus that the officiating at the end of the game cost Iowa a chance to win the game. I wonder how many bad spots happen during a game, I wonder if the Gators got any "generous" spots during any of their TD drives in that game, chances are that they did...happens all the time.
Let me rephrase... This was a horrendous spot of at least a yard and a half...very unusual to miss it by that much and it kept alive Iowa's last TD drive to get them within 7. As I vehemently defend...not all bad calls are equal. When and where they happen in a game are crucial. Without the bad spot there was no onsides kick controversy. Were it not for the fact that I was already fuming about that bad spot and what it did for Iowa I assure I would at least recognize that Iowa probably deserved at least the chance to try and drive 45 yards with two minutes remaining and no TOs in order to possibly tie the game.
Well we'd have to go to the film to confirm that, or do you have a reference to a credible Gator article that confirms the foot and a half? Also are you sure that the Gators never recieved a favorable spot during that game that kept a drive going? Because if they did that could have changed everything.
Thanks Tom, but I think MCG already fits in here. I just don't agree with many of his toughts about officials. MCG has been with us from the start and on Prodigy, he changed his name to protect the innocent! Just kidding. In fact we have met several times at a Gator games.
Here's a reference to the bad spot Terry that I found on a Iowa blog in which an Iowa fan is admitting the bad spot: January 4th, 2006 at 2:43 pm Yes we did, JS - it was the only call that went Iowa’s way all day. It was a terrible spot. - Doug@Beale AFB January 4th, 2006 at 1:30 pm as if hawk fans needed another thing to blame this season… did any of you football gurus see the two yard spot that gave iowa a first and 10 instead of a 4th and 2, or did you guys forget that one. - js From MCG: ....in response to his "it was the only call that went Iowa's way all day." I disagree because I remember another call or two against Fla that I definitely did not agree with. In any event this Iowa fan on an Iowa blog admits to the "terrible spot".
I too go back to the Prodigy days when the atmosphere resembled the wild west on occasion with guys agreeing to meet in neutral cities for fights. God, I miss those days... Now we all get along more or less. It's taken many years of moderators, a change of address and constant discourse to achieve the level of awareness that we are at now, namely, that I really do know more than the rest of you.
