Good read Bill.......and it sums it up quite well. Now.....if LK can pile up Ws in Knoxville he will at least have a whole bunch of orange clad friends and admirers but if not I suspect he will tone things down eventually.
We wouldn't expect anything else. The criteria for you thinking it is good is that it have a distinctive Gator twist to it. If it doesn't, it is a bad article. There is nothing new to that. We should all say that spouting off making smart a$$ed comments is something that will not be tolerated here... unless it is Steve Spurrier saying it about Tennessee, then because it fits a Gator agenda, it is fine. Bull S#it!!! I said, back when Gator Stevie was spouting off about "You can't spell Citrus without U and T, that this would come back to haunt Florida at one time or another. This is my time and by golly I'm enjoying it. Go Vols. To hell with the Gators and any one else!
Hey Tom where it comes to Spurrier, I know you have not liked him thought the years and that's fine by me. I still follow him and watch S. Carolina when I get a chance. However I have lived with, and don't mind, a long time knowing that you and a lot of Tennessee fans don't like him. No problem. Kiffin, I guess you will just have to live with the fact I don't much care for him and I respect that you are enjoying the ride with him. Maybe he will be at Tennessee a long time and be as successful as Spurrier. I do certainly understand the Tennessee faithful needing someone to pick them up and give them hope. And I will add this, I have enjoyed the Tennessee rivalry probably more than any of the others on our schedule over the last 20 years, to get it back to where we are fighting every year, probably along with Georgia, to win the East would be a good thing. I hope you enjoy your trip this weekend and give Cindy our best.
Bill, You have to understand our plight. We Tennessee fans lived through the Spurrier years of name calling and such. Now that the trend is reversing, we are having a hard time understanding the reaction from Gators. You guys sure can dish it out but can't take it not one single bit. Dish it out Kiffin. Dish it out as much as you please. It's time the Gators get a little taste of what their man dished out for ever.
You have it mostly right Tom but a little wrong, I never quite understood the anger toward Spurrier but adapted to it. Tennessee fans didn't like Spurrier's approach and were pretty vocal about it. Now as you accurately say the Tennessee coach is handing out his brand and the Gators don't much like it. Seems we are acting about like the people on the receiving end from Spurrier What I basically took issue with here are those who think Meyer should have just kept his moth shut after taking quite a few shots. He finally said something and most Gators supported what he said, for those that think he should have taken what they call a higher road, I don't agree. He can and will hold his own. Anyway, enjoy the game tomorrow and your trip to Tennessee.
Two things I don't fully understand here: 1) I agree....if Kiffin is talking the talk then why should it not be OK for Urban to fire back a little. 2) If Kiffin is talking the talk without having accomplished much at Tenn so far then how is that legit and why should we take him seriously? Get some wins.....field a competitive team that can and does beat Tenn.'s SEC rivals and maybe a snide comment or two will be deserved and certainly more effective. For now it's just highly annoying.
That's fine. I am copying everything you gators have to say here. Be careful with your words boys... eating them in a year or two is going to be music to my ears. "We're the high and mighty gators. Only we have earned the right to throw barbs. Ya'll aren't fit to shine our shoes." That is exactly what you sound like. ... and I am going to be your worst nightmare when things turn. You will eat your words. You will find out what it feels like to have it thrown back at you with absolutely zero compassion! I held my tongue when Ole Miss beat you last year. I've held my tongue in every gator loss. Those days are over boys... those days are over.
No Corey, my comments are directed at Dave. When he says: ... he is telling me that they have the right to throw barbs. Lowly Tennessee doesn't have that right until they "get some wins". In other words, we don't rate the privilege of that of the gators. You just can spell Fornicate You without a UF. (Can't use the 4 letter variety here)
Tom, I think what I say makes sense. I don't remember Spurrier having all that much to say about opposing teams in his first few months or his first season. After the Gators began to roll he got a little cocky to be sure but that is after he had already achieved some pretty decent success.
You always do. You are absolutely incapable of putting yourself in the other man's shoes. Of course you would think that way.
So, Dave, is it your opinion that once a coach has success at a program it is fine for him to belittle another program? Your words explain a lot of what we have been reading over the past 10 years.
I'm not saying that Spurrier wasn't a little too brash...a little too cocky at times but when he was he had reason to believe that his on field accomplishments could back it up. That's Spurrier's style but it's not necessarily the right way because providing BB material for the opponent can backfire.
