That's a distinct possibility. Now, with that said, I wonder if we will see both #14 and #19 behind center. Lane is defending Crompton's inaccuracy last week by saying that Jones, who had missed most of practice during the week for an injury, was to blame. I can see the last two when Jones did not appear to be in the same zip code with the intended pass. There may be truth to it. My question then is this: Why was he in when the freshman receiver, Marsalis Teague, was having a banner day? I want to wait and see the 1st quarter. That will determine whether we have a chance or whether a wash and wax of the vehicles are in order during the rest of the game.
Hadn't had much time to post this week so I'll sum up my thoughts for the week as quickly as possible. On game vs. UCLA Congrats to Corey, looks like the rebuilding project at UCLA is right on track. I think Jonathon Crompton just took the mantle as worst college quarterback in history. I was impressed with defensive intensity by Vols despite being put into bad situations over and over again. I was very disappointed that Tennessee O-Line couldn't push into the endzone for the score. Incredible! Then again, what do you expect when there is zero chance of a pass being thrown? I thought Tennessee would handle UCLA rather easily. However, UCLA has a very good defense and had a redshirt freshman QB with more composure in his finger than Crompton has in his entire body. Nice, gutsy win. On the Florida game: Tennessee has to control the clock and have some threat of a pass. I'm not sure how much they let Crompton throw but there has to be enough of a threat to keep the Gators honest or you're going to see a ton of 3 and outs which will lead to Tennessee's D being worn down. If Crompton doesn't throw TDs to the Gators, I think Tennessee can hold Florida under 30 points. I see nothing in the Tennessee defense to lead me to believe otherwise unless, like I said, they get worn down. In the end, the Gators win the game but not by as much as Vegas thinks. Florida 27-7.
I am hoping for a Gator romp that saves the fingernails Aquila but like you I think it will be somewhere in between. 27-7 sounds feasible....so does my 23-10. I would be happy with 23-10 but I am not sure that would be good enough for most Gator fans....except Bill who I am certain will be happy with a one point win.....( and in reality I would take it too ). Unless Crompton implodes I don't see UF running away with it early. Or....Brandon James kick returns.....punt blocks.....A N'UKeese Richardson fumble on a kick return....which I fully expect by the way...any of thoise things could also open up the floodgates.
27-7. Maybe at the end of Q1 8) I think the Vols better tighten their chin straps. This one spells ugly from here to Gainesville.
I thought I read somewhere that this is the largest point spread deficit in the history of Tennessee football. It's hard to not take UT here...at least to beat the spread.
Corey, Historically, smart money has always taken the points and the opponent when Tennessee is favored and take the points and Tennessee when they are not. However, in this game, smart money will stay the heck away from any bet.
From Gatorsports: "Tennessee’s run-heavy offense will lead Crompton right into the teeth of the Gator defense — the secondary, where DB Joe Haden and company eagerly wait. “We pretty much love it. I’m definitely comfortable focusing on the run,” LB Stamper said. “That’s pretty much what we’re focusing on this week, because our secondary will pretty much take care of business.” Just what I think also....UF will blitz Crompton and stack the line against the run daring him to throw against single coverage. May the best player....DB or WR win...!
Everyone in the contest can now see that I am trying to "buy one for the team" I will gladly give up the points to win this game.
Well we will be leaving here, Jacksonville, for the game in about 2 hours. My prediction 40 - 17 Gators But I would be happy if we win 3 - 2.
Pretty good cartoons Tom. Hope needs to spring eternal for all us football fans. I remember the 2001 season where the Gators were ranked #2 and needed a win to advance to the SEC Championship game and if we won that to the National Championship game against Miami. The Vols upset us that day then were upset themselves a week later by LSU in the SEC Championship game. I don't need history repeating.
Florida gets the ball at the Tennessee 30 to start the first series due to bad special teams coverage and a legitimate face mask penalty. The Tennessee defense is successful on two 3rd down plays to hold Florida to one 1st down on a 4th down play and then a field goal. For me, that is a win for the Tennessee defense. Go Vols!!!!!
Fans singing Rocky Top after Tennessee has success on first 3rd down play to convert 1st down. You got to take your wins where you get 'em. 2nd third down play successful as well! Go Vols!!!!!!
Three successful 3rd downs and one successful 2nd down. I KNOW it is early. I KNOW things can change. I like the way this offense is clicking right now. I'll gladly give up the 21 points for a Tennessee win. Go Vols!!!!!!!!
