I would agree Tom, but if you think they don't exist in all fan bases including Tennessee's then I think your perspective is wrong or you don't visit some of the internet sites. But none the less, the Gators have some spoiled fans right now, especially ones that don't know much about our history until 1990.
I can't believe this is still going... Yes, bat **** crazy is the appropriate term to define both our fan bases. I even said that ours is, collectively, worse. That's not a 'mine is bigger than yours' issue.. Your fans will collectively turn a blind eye toward anything negative so long as you guys are in the NC hunt.. On the scale of 'sins' that is still pretty far down there. I'm just letting you know that you guys are gaining. Our fan base would actually bitch about while winning a title because "Ara didn't do it that way... Lou didn't do it that way... insert legendary figure here didn't do it that way" The ND job really is a no win situation. You have to want to win to please yourself there because there is no pleasing the fan base...at least not entirely. I have a group of about 8 to 10 friends. Most are personal friends, the other 2 are more 'internet buddies' but no where near on the level I'd consider each and every one of you here... Collectively, they run roughly 50 to 60 'fan boards' of various types.. All of whom who cover college football, if polled, would tell you that the Gator fans are getting pretty bad. As for Finebaum... somehow this guy is my 'idol' and my 'hero' according to you when the reality is far from it. He's an asshole, it doesn't make him wrong...Finebaum race baits on a level that almost has to be admired if it were not so disgusting. I am constantly amazed at how rarely his true 'fans' realize they are falling into a trap and helping him paint a picture that he already had in mind.. At the same time, there aren't many more connected in the SEC period especially in the media. Whether or not you like the guy doesn't matter... he's a good source... and there is a difference in the syntax that you are either missing or refusing to own up to on this issue.. If Finebaum writes an article saying someone should or probably should leave.. rest assured, he will get his cheap shot digs in.. he muckrakes with the best of them.. but within that giant turd he's flinging at you is actually a message and some valuable information... However, if Finebaum tells you that a coach is 'done' or that he's dead man walking... then rest assured, that man is because Paul didn't make it up.. Someone who would have a part in that process has told him that man is done.
Corey, calling him your idol is just my jerking your chain like you love to do to us Gators. I'll make you a deal, you quit referring to all you Gators when some other Gator comes up with something that there is a good chance I don't agree with, and I'll quit calling him your idol. In other words don't lump me with things about Gators that you don't like unless you are sure that includes me and I'll drop the idol thing. You and I do agree on one thing, he's an asshole. I'm going to see if I can upload a picture I got in the email concerning Meyer and Tebow and post it here. It won't be until sometime next week if I get it done. I think you will enjoy, it's photoshop enhanced. I can't do it now because we are in the middle of company and I just took a short break, then I have to drive home tomorrow and get my grades posted by Monday afternoon. Oh, as far as referring back to not doing it like the prior coach, the Gator fan base has a split personality, not many of them would trade Meyer for any prior coach, including Spurrier. However this entire year while we were unbeaten and ranked number one there was a lot complainers who didn't like the style points in our wins, offensively that is. They are having a field day now with the I told you so crap.
Corey, I changed my mind am and getting better getting this stuff done. I think you might enjoy this.
Bill, In fairness to you... and I should say Wendy... You're the only 2.. And I think Wendy might want to say something if she were not busy lining me up in the sites of her scope
Corey, you didn't comment on my picture. I'm a bit confused about the comment about me and Wendy being the only two. The only two out of what, I only know of us two and MCG here. So who are the others?
Im fairly sure we've had others over the years... The (literally) hundreds I see on the BBs and the maybe core 12 to 14 I have to see on a weekly basis here around town... They should aspire to your standards of class and objectivity... But oh well.. As for the picture, that was good stuff. I actually like Tebow quite a bit. I hated it for him that it ended that way... at the same time, he's had so much opened for him (not that he didn't earn his share) that at the same time it was good to see someone else come along and make this conference interesting.
I agree with your comments about Tebow and even about someone making the conference interesting. However it wasn't but a couple of years ago that LSU was making it interesting. As far as other Gators here, there haven't been that many. There is one that has stuck his head in from time to time to attack but he's been handled and hasn't been here in a bit. I've deleted or locked numerous topics and I'll just let it go at that. It does seem to me that when you mention you Gators in a post here it ought to be about the Gators here, not some you may know from some other forums. Anyway thanks for the compliments and I hope we remain in contact for some time. Tebow, I don't see that things have ended badly for him. The Bama game was a downer, but we are still ranked 5th and in a bowl game against a higher ranked opponent. If we win I see us as at least number 4 with an outside chance at 3rd or even 2nd according to how the other bowls play out. Let's just say a win and 4th, that's a heck of a run for our Senior class and Tebow will always have the legacy of 48 wins against 7 losses, 2 NC's and 2 SEC championships to go along with his Heisman. Not a bad four years in my thinking.
My point exactly......can't just hand it over to Bama. Texas might surprise a lot of folks. Why is that my opinion?.......Because of the three games above and because McCoy is a senior Qb with a great record of winning. On Florida and their fans.....I think it was apparent in many games that UF had some offensive struggles at times this year. The Tenn game proved to be more the norm than just an off day for the offense. UF had a new offensive coordinator this year for the 1st time in Meyer's 5 years and we were missing a playmaker WR that we might have had with Debose if he didn't get injured. When the defense surprisingly packed it in vs. Bama all of those worries and criticisms came to a season dampening fruition. I have always said that if you win a BCS Bowl and finish in the top 5 you have had an outstanding season.....one to be very proud of. That is still attainable for UF but the defense has to decide that they need to lay it out there for one more game before a lot of them move it on the NFL.
This isn't a boxing match George, it's more like a dance. I am not counting Texas out, not in the least.
Bill, Jeez, are you going to make you use the asterisk? you know how I feel about the usage of those in sports..
