Thanks Stu, it was a great game. I do agree that with instant replay available on every play it's what we all dreamed of....but maybe it's more of careful what you wish for sort of thing. It struck me how hard it must be to ref with replay looking over your shoulder during the San Diego/Indy playoff. There were a couple of fumbles that absolutely looked like fumbles in real time and I doubt if anybody would have thought otherwise, except we have high speed, high resolution camera's from 6 angles that can catch that a players knee touched the ground and he still (barely) had possesion of the ball. I don't like the new facemask rule, having your hand briefly touch a players facemask isn't the same as grabbing it and giving it a tug. I also wonder why if we can challenge so many things why can't we challenge everything? It might make for a 5 hour game though. It seeems like things like that blow to the head that wasn't a blow to the head should have been able to be challenged as much as wheter a players knee is down or did he have control of the ball before he went out of bounds, etc. Congrats to the Lady Boilers on their win over Texas, I do have to point out though that the Lady Irish did take down those same Purdue Ladies at South Bend!!
Another curious part of the night was Terrelle Pryor looking more like Chris Leak running with ball than he did Tim Tebow: "Another piece of pigskin puzzlement rested on the shoulders—or more precisely, the legs--of McCoy’s opposite number, Ohio State signal caller Terrelle Pryor. Despite being rotated in and out of the lineup, in tandem with senior quarterback Todd Boeckman, Pryor somehow felt it unimportant to spill his guts on each and every play. On multiple occasions during this game, Pryor—the fastest man on the field not named Beanie Wells—ran out of bounds well before he needed to, the height of irony (and agony) for the Scarlet and Gray. The freshman with jaw-dropping athleticism would make several Longhorn pass rushers look absolutely silly, only to then break into the Texas secondary and bail out on a play, sacrificing 15 yards out of a misguided sense of cautiousness. Perhaps he wanted to pace himself, and perhaps he wanted to save his body from hellacious hits. All the same, Pryor prematurely ended plays that could have prolonged a number of Buckeye drives, particularly in a first half dominated by OSU. Had Pryor been able to finish strong on all of his runs, and not just the plays he dominated on the Buckeyes’ first fourth-quarter touchdown drive, it’s fair to say that Ohio State would have scored more than 21 points." What in the heck was he saving himself for????
Those boys that play for Texas are bigger'n those HS defensive backs. I dunno...he ran out of bounds a few times but I'm not sure he had that much left to gain.
Did anyone else out there question OSU's timeout at the 5 after a long drive in the first half? They had Texas back on their heels and probably a little tired. For some reason Tressel calls TO, they lose their momentum, Texas regroups, OSU jumps prior to the snap and they end up with 3 instead of 7. Couldn't figure that decision out.
Utah had both a penalty and a turnover. The turnover gave Bama the ball inside Ute territory and set up Bama's only offensive TD. The penalty was that 'quick re-set' in which they drew Bama offsides but the officials decided to redefine the rules Gip- Lately, there are a lot of Tressel calls that I question...
I think Bevo was at both the Rose Bowl games as well. He doesn't ordinarily travel as most schools no longer allow the opponents "Live" mascots on the sidelines anymore. But I guess bowl games are different or they have better insurance in case Ralphie or Bevo, or Traveler or whatever gets loose. I would imagine though that Bevo does travel in style though.
He has sometimes admitted to making the wrong decision...as all of us do. Don't know why they called the timeout...maybe the wrong package was on the field...maybe there was some confusion on the sideline...who know's?
Oops, that must have been one of the other underdogs, maybe Kentucky or Ole Miss. I do remember that one team (thought it was Utah) ended the game with the announcers mentioning no turnovers and no penalties.
Bevo's fortunate he is a mascot for a top echelon team that plays in elite bowl games. If the big guy had been shipped to Detroit for the Motor City Bowl, he probably would have ended up an unwilling participant in an impromptu, sirloin BBQ tailgate on I-75.
Terry. Beanie incurred a mild concussion early in the second half and the trainers decided to hold him out as a precaution. Don
LOL.... As Billy Ray Cyrus once said....'It could have been me' ... Any word on Beanie going to the NFL? I would think he probably should go and not risk the chance at any more injuries in college.
