Yeah you have Bryce Young from USC feeder school in So.Cal.- Mater Dei. He's reportedly really good and at most places he'd push for playing time as a true frosh. No doubt having good and experienced WR's makes a big difference. Just look at Jake Fromm this year, he lost most of his best WR's and the replacements were freshman or grad transfers. It impacted him as a QB.
Corey, yeah I just saw that. Josh McMillon, the other inside linebacker that got hurt early in the year is coming back. That means that inside linebacker goes from our most inexperienced position to our deepest. Hopefully this will be the heart of a return to a dominating defense.
Yeah I have a feeling that there will be a more familiar feel to Alabama football next year.. tough yards, bruising defense etc etc.
Welp...UGA had a bad day. Jake Fromm declared for the NFL, I can't imagine him being a 1st round draft choice. Also Cade Mays was a stud on the OL and he's entered the Transfer Portal. This bad news day for Georgia is a good news day though for the Gators.
"This bad news day for Georgia is a good news day though for the Gators." And that my friend is such a good day indeed when that happens.....
It is interesting, I read that the person representing Mays in the transfer process also works for the NCAA. If true, the NCAA front office doesn't even pretend to have any ethics.
Of the high profile transfers...Fields played the race card, Shea Patterson played the NCAA sanctions card, I don't know what card Tate Martell played because Urban retired and his OCoord became the HC. Hurts and Burrow were grad transfers, Mayfield and Murray were denied and had to sit a year. Of course not all the kids who transfer get waivers, but there used to be virtually zero and now it's not uncommon. I'm all for kids getting a fair deal and all, and maybe it's out of date for the kids to commit to the school rather than the HC or the Coord or position coach. It's tempting to say that they should get one "do over" transfer, but I'm afraid of the impact on the sport overall if we go that way.
Mays' dad is suing UGa, I bet that he'll contend he couldn't get a fair shake at UGa with his dad suing the school. It's BS, sure, but when they granted Fields that BS race card, they really opened the flood gates.
I thought it was BS when Fields got the waver for the reason he did. But the NCAA seems to have tightened up a bit since then.
Who have they turned down? It seems like if you are a high profile player you get what you want. Maybe because of the threat of lawsuits or if you are represented by one of the NCAA affiliated individuals. Let's see what happens to Mays.
We have had several players who didn't get a waiver. The latest one was Brenton Cox a LB who transferred from Georgia and applied for a waiver which he never got.
I can't name any specific players from this year, but with all the transfers you know there are more than a few who don't get the waiver.
Well Georgia just picked up a significant Grad Transfer when Wake Forrest QB Jamie Newman enrolled at UGA. Newman had a very good career at Wake Forrest, he completed 60.9% of his attempts for 2,868 yards with 26 touchdowns and 11 interceptions this past year. He added 574 rushing yards with six more scores.Newman ranked second in the ACC in total offense with 286.8 yards per game and fifth in passing with 252.7 yards per game
I get a chuckle when some of these kids transfer. Mostly from a perspective point of view. Had you asked most UGa fans what they thought of Wake, they would have said to a person that Wake doesn't have one kid who could play for them. Then they do pick up a grad transfer (and a good one to boot), now this kid is a 'big time pickup' I wish the kid well though.
haha! Speaking of great LSU fans, I seem to remember someone wondering where LSUFreek had been. Well, life wore Terrance down but his return after the Alabama game was worth it. Why SEC GIF guru ‘LSUFreek’ disappeared
