....and I contend that predatory and dishonest practices make otherwise responsible people look foolish....
Best idea I've heard so far today. We are friends anyway, which is why I ended my last post the same as you ended yours to both me and George. About your mention to George that he might be occasionally misguided. Be careful what you say to him. He's the Godfather of this Board, and Jif is his consigliere. He seems to have a good sense of humor and does not appear to have a Sonny Corleone kind of temperament, but it would not be a bad idea to temper your humorous pokes with respectful comments. An aside re: credit cards. My first assignment in banking in 1966 after coming off the college graduate training program was to travel around Indiana installing the new bank card program that my bank in Indy had initiated. At the time ours was one of only two programs in the midwest ( don't know about the entire country). I would educate large merchants with multiple outlets on how to use the imprinter and how to process the sales. I would educate banks on how to process the sales deposited by their merchants. It was a great assignment. About a year later, my second assignment was to accompany an experienced collector as he went to homes primarily in inner city Indy to try to collect the debts run up by irresponsible cardholders (The bank had flooded the market with the cards in an irresponsible way, but because they were breaking new ground, there were no rules to follow). The collection experience was a real eye opener for a guy who had idealistic if somewhat naive views of the world as a recent college graduate. I could go on, describing my experiences in this venture, but suffice to say 40+ years later I consider myself something of a pioneer in the credit card industry. A second aside: The other early card program, Town & Country, was initiated by Continental Bank in Chicago and eventually morphed into what is now Visa. My bank's program eventually became one of the first members of the MasterCard network.
Sid, a true pioneer in your day! I came along a little while later to bring order out of the chaos! MCG, just because one has evidenced some degree of responsible action in the past does not make him wise.....dumb is forever.
