I'm pretty sure that Monsignor Pellini is a Notre Dame coach in training as well. He's a catholic boy from Ohio also!
I don't know, Stu and I shared a hotel room at the Texas/Ohio State game in Austin and I slept with one eye open.
....none at all Sid. I'm a traditionalist. I believe the aura and history surrounding ND is one of the many great and wonderful things about college football and its rich traditions. I believe a strong ND football team is a great thing for college football.....I will always rank my trip to South Bend when last we visited as one of my favorites road trips of all time....in spite of the fact we got lost after the game and arrived at the MBC too late to meet anybody.....but did enjoy a victory 4 Horsemen or several! That said, I'm still a Big 10 guy and will continue root hard for my conference brethren - even TUN - to put a whipping on the Irish.
So many possible jokes here, and so little time. Sid, I totally understand your reflex... you guys do get that treatment just about everwhere. Heck, my Dad is a portrait of the cliches you run into. My only real issues with ND have to do with being behind when time ran out! I'm still bitter over the 94 Cotton Bowl loss... IF only my guy had pitched that ball a half second sooner on our final hook and lateral play... Of course, IF frogs had wings, they wouldn't' bump their butts when they jump... 8)
I was there. Attending the Cotton Bowls in 93 and 94 provided me with a "face to face" view of the A&M spirit. I've had immense respect for A&M ever since.
I love this thread so much....... 60 days till football Can we have a playoff now? BTW-I assume by receiving 'special treatment' you also are saying that the non-BCS conferences receive 'special treatment' as well.. And let us make no mistake, the only ones who are 'special' here are the members of the 6 BCS conferences.
I believe Notre Dame was part of the BCS arrangement from the start and I don't believe the system would have ever flown without the Irish. So I would expand that number to 7.
I've been to 2 Cotton Bowls the 1978 win over Tex. for the NC and the 88 loss to A&M. Had a great time at both games and appreciated the hospitality of the Texas hosts. In 88 we stayed at a hotel with a number of A&M fans. There was plenty of good natured banter and we enjoyed every minute. Hey, give Tim Brown back his towel!
Bill, You are correct, but then when negotiations came up again, ND walked away with a diminished cut of the pie under the guise of a 'guaranteed payout annually', which as the article pointed out... isn't much at all. But you are right.. 6, 7... either way, it's crap.
Oh I'm OK Bill. You get to a point in life where they keep throwing you so many curve balls that you've got no other choice but to scoot up in the box and try to wrap a few around the foul pole. That's pretty much where I'm at right now
I'm sure Corey was dismayed to learn that the Mtn West caved and signed the new BCS agreement. They had been holding out trying to pressure the BCS, but when the WAC caved and signed they felt like they had no choice. As long as the BCS conferences are solid then the non-BCS conferences and ND don't really have a lot of leverage.
T, You make a good point. The BCS conferences can afford to be solid. They aren't dying for the cash, they hold it. They can tempt or lure the nonBCS conferences by offering them just a few more crumbs. I sincerely hope they all dig in and hold steady. The law isn't on the BCS' side here.
