OK... that's per capita. The total population of Florida dwarfs La. and SC combined I would imagine so hence..... more NFL caliber talent in Florida. I agree LSU has an attraction for in-state La. kids that SC does not hold for in-state SC kids. That and nearby Ga and TN and others as you mention just raid the hell out of SC talent. The main reason that Spurrier has done as well as he has is because he has kept guys like Clowney and Lattimore in the state plus he has the "name" to go down to places like Tampa and reel in an out of state Qb or two. Spurrier recently had three consecutive 11 win seasons at South Carolina. When is the next time Notre Dame will be able to say that?
There are lies, damn lies and statistics...somebody sad that once and...while I won't doubt your chart however if that meant anything then So.Car would have been having the same kind of success as LSU. But pretty much all the top players in La. go to LSU, not so historically for So.Car. They went to Tenn and UGA. Plus LSU doesn't have an instate rival like Clemson for recruiting. Just don't see any way you can say Spurrier should've or could've done better....I don't think Urban or Nick could have done much more if any at all.
Final Top 25 (AP) 1958, 1984, 1987, 2000, 2001, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013 Final Top 25 (Coaches) 1984, 1987, 2000, 2001, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013 Bowl Victories* 1994, 2001, 2002, 2006, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 You can see in bold the success created by Spurrier at a school without much success in the 100 years or so before he got there.
kp, the Florida history before Spurrier is a bit different that what you are saying and much different than S. Carolina. Florida burst onto the big time in the early 80's but run afoul of the NCAA. We actually won the SEC in 1984 but due to being put on probation by the NCAA the SEC voted to take it away from us. Gator fans always have resented that because there were several other teams prior who won while on probation and it wasn't taken away. Also if we were not on probation we would have tied in 1985. After severe sanctions we were somewhat mediocre until Spurrier came on board in 1990. So it is true that we never won an official SEC Championship until Spurrier were an SEC power in the early 80's before the sanctions killed us. There was and is a vast difference in the talent level in Florida and in S. Carolina and a vast difference in where the two programs were when Spurrier came onboard at Florida.
Not really, you're just using the one Alabama fans normally use. You count championships, not winning seasons. By Alabama standards what he has done is fine just not anything that would impress a Bama fan.
