We had coverage, but copays and deductibles came into play. Was covered under the prescription Part D of our Humana...but we have supplemental rather than an advantage plan...advantage plans may cover drugs better. I didn't like the idea of being restricted to a network.
Thanks for the info guys. We get our 2nd Covid shot Friday and I am thinking my wife should get the shingles shot,
Just throwing this out there because I didn't see it mentioned: Bill, your wife only needs the shingles shot if she's had chicken pox.
No Scott, I don't think so....??? Ask the Experts: Zoster (Shingles) Vaccines "Before administering Shingrix is it necessary to ask if the person has ever had chickenpox or shingles? No. All people age 50 years or older-whether they have a history of chickenpox or shingles or not-should be given Shingrix unless they have a medical contraindication to vaccination (described below). It also is not necessary to test for varicella antibody prior to or after giving the vaccine."
She has and also had Shingles a few years ago. I guess I got careless and didn't think it was necessary. I do understand that I should be immune for several years but am not sure about that.
Bill, you should get it once your rash is gone. Will my shingles come back? "The CDC suggests getting the shingles vaccine Shingrix (RZV) if you're a healthy adult ages 50 or older. It was approved in 2017 and has been found to be more than 90% effective effective in preventing shingles and the complications caused by the disease. Even if you've already had shingles, the CDC says the vaccine can help prevent a second round of it. Shingrix is preferred over an earlier vaccine, Zostavax. You should also get it if you have previously had had the Zostravax vaccine. Talk to your doctor about when to get the vaccine. If you've just gotten over shingles, the CDC recommends waiting at least until the shingles rash has disappeared."
Thanks Stu... it was explained to me by the nurse at the time that it was the resurface of the old chicken pox that never leaves the spinal column... so in that context you couldn't get it if you never had the pox. Good to know that's not the case so I don't go around spouting incorrect info!
So.....spoke with the VA doc and 66 year old nurse about my shingles shot....and how I've never even had the pox with back up varicelle shots in the 90's.....the answer was......well....
I'm gonna hang on as long as I can.....please post any grapefruit sized cysts you're exhibiting from now until at least September. Please.
I got the Moderna #1 shot this morning. The needles are so thin I couldn't feel anything. This is the first shot I received since the Bishop Amat game in 1967, when our team had the flu...
Was scheduled to get my second Moderna shot today at 2:15 but we got a call this morning that we could go in early. We did and were home by noon. Took a nap but so far at 4:00 o'clock we are both feeling fine. Hope that keeps up.
Well....VA said get your ass in here Marine....1st Moderna underway....washing it down with Pacifico and Jeffersons Ocean Aged Bourbon....feel a little dizzy....damn shot....
FDA announced it is fast tracking the work on the new variants. There won't need to be full clinical trials with thousands of people. Drugmakers won’t have to perform massive trials for new vaccines or booster shots developed to combat worrisome new variants of the coronavirus, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration said. In documents released by the agency Monday, it said immunizations that protect against the variants could receive clearance based on so-called immunogenicity studies, where researchers vaccinate people and then conduct laboratory tests to measure the strength of their immune response. These tests, similar to what is done for annual flu shots, are far simpler than the standard efficacy studies used for clearance of the initial vaccines, which involved thousands of volunteers and took months of work. Just an FYI Terry, I won't give a single click to anything with that joker's name associated with it. I don't care if it's actually not his... still won't click it just to be sure.
It looks like the J&J vaccine will be approved shortly. It's effectiveness though is not as good as the Pfzer and Moderna vaccines. Those 2 reported 95% effectiveness while the J&J vaccine reported 72% in the US trials. It is however a 1 shot regimen. I'm not sure of the practical difference but I'm glad I got the Moderna vaccine and I wonder if there will be people who decline the J&J and wait till they can get either the Pfzer or Moderna.
Just received my second Pfizer vaccination at the Atlantic City Convention Center. They are giving 4000 vaccs there today and have 5000 scheduled for tomorrow.
I doubt if you'll have an option other than to not sign up for a site that is going to be administering the J&J vax. I could see that happening. I think I probably would try to get on a list that provided either the Pfzer or the Moderna vaccines.
