Right now I wish I had gotten the Shingles shot. Have it now and it's miserable.

CDC said today that beginning at 2 weeks after your second shot you don't have to quarantine for 14 days after an exposure. This waiver is good for 90 days.

Bill, sorry to hear that. I had a small case of it a few years ago and it is the definition of suffering.

Still no word after I applied. However (pause for affect AJ)....I have noticed that since I've been avoiding the bars, and using that money for top shelf bourbon, I've felt better both first thing in the morning and financially than I ever have.

Not sure where I was going with that...

    That sucks Bill....get better.

True story, I've never had ANY childhood diseases. Not one. Was 30 going on 31 when my first was born. Had a conversation about that one day, and was told I better get tested. I said but all the shots i had as a kid and in the Corps shoulda covered that right? And they said not Chicken Pox. So I went and got tested, and they told me good thing you came on, you're covered for everything except the Pox. If you woulda gotten this at your age, life woulda sucked. So I got a series of 3 to 4 shots, and they said I was GTG. I bring this up because at my annual VA appt, they wanted to give me a shingles shot. I repeated the story, and they couldn't tell me if I should or shouldn't, since those inoculations back in 95, and the fact I've never had it? Any thoughts from the docs on this board?

My brother got the pox in his late 30's and he agreed with what you were told: Total hell.
But not as bad as shingles.

I put off a shingles shot for years. Finally, after talking to enough people who had had it, some more than once, I decided to follow my doc's advice. Got my second Shingrix shot in early January.

Hang in there, Bill. It will get better.

I think you should probably get it. Even those who got the previous shingles vaccine (Zostavax) are recommended to get the Shingrix.

Ask the Experts: Zoster (Shingles) Vaccines

"Before administering Shingrix is it necessary to ask if the person has ever had chickenpox or shingles?
No. All people age 50 years or older-whether they have a history of chickenpox or shingles or not-should be given Shingrix unless they have a medical contraindication to vaccination (described below). It also is not necessary to test for varicella antibody prior to or after giving the vaccine."

    Feeling much better thanks guys.

The doctor told me that after getting the shingles I would have an immunity for several years. Any comments about that?

Where do you get the shot?

I got my Shingrix at the local Randall's Grocery Store, didn't need an appointment. Was shopping and decided to get 1st one, PCP had been after me to get it. I'd heard that some had a day of feeling crummy and definitely a sore arm. I didn't have that after either the 1st or 2nd dose, which was why I was a little surprised that I had some symptoms after the 2nd Moderna shot.

Thanks, we get our second Moderna shot a week from today. There is a wait time after that for the Shingles shot. Will probably get one for the wife but according to my doctor I should have some time of immunity.

Feeling very good today and looking at me you wouldn't realize now I had shingles.

    Thanks for the information.

Oh one other question how much of this is covered by insurance?

Both my Shringrix shots were 100% covered by insurance. I have Anthem Medicare Advantage.

Got our second vaccine shot this am. I'm scheduled to get my second Shingles shot second week in Mar. Had to pay a $45 co pay for the first shot.
