The new case rate and positivity rate when tested are indicators of how the virus is being managed:
From my post Saturday the 22nd:
    New cases yesterday:
    U.S. 49,700
new cases /// population 333 mil
Italy 947 new cases /// 60.4 million pop cases times 5.5 US population multiplier = 5300 new cases
    France 4586 new case /// 65.2 mil pop " " " times 5.2 =24,000 new cases
    Germany 1427 new cases /// 83.8 mil pop times 4 = 5700 new cases
    Florida US 4684 new cases/// 21.4 million

    Also.... positivity rates:
Here is the rolling 7 day average from August 20th back:
    U.S. 6.7%
    France 3.6
    Italy 1.6
    Germany .9

Could we do worse than some? Sure... are we doing better than some? Not the ones on this list but yes better than some.
But we should leading the pack.... showing the way.... being the great country that we are and leading by example... a quality that our current president just can't fathom.

Ignoring completely that they went through their surge earlier than we did. Possibly due to our lockdown efforts. Look at their death rates. Maybe we’ll pass them maybe we won’t. Maybe they’ll go through a second wave maybe they won’t.

    From a Pew Research survey:
Americans rank dead last -- by a long way -- among citizens of more than a dozen countries who were asked whether their nation is more united now than it was before the coronavirus pandemic, according to a survey released Thursday.
And they come in a statistical joint last place with the British on whether their country has handled the pandemic well, the poll finds.
In the United States, fewer than two in 10 people (18%) said the country is more united now.
That's a full 21 percentage points below the next lowest-ranking countries, Germany and France, where just under four in 10 (39%) respondents expressed that opinion. Denmark had the highest percentage saying their country was more united now, with more than seven in 10 (72%) giving that answer.
n the United States, fewer than two in 10 people (18%) said the country is more united now.

I completely agree we are not united. You blame your boogie man and I’ll blame mine.

"Increasing again in France and Spain and others" That's either how this pandemic works or it's Trump's fault.

When do we say "enough is enough" and just start ignoring these overreaching rules like our overlords already do???

That's somewhat encouraging, doesn't mean it's going to happen. But this whole crusade to find a vaccine is just an amazing effort world wide.

COVID-19: Fauci ; vaccine could be out early; ventilators; Pompeo; TSA

Clinical trials of a COVID-19 vaccine can be legitimately cut short and could allow a vaccine to become available more quickly than previously expected, Dr. Anthony Fauci says. Fauci says early indication of overwhelming success – or failure – of a vaccine candidate would be grounds for ending the trials early.

More possible good news...hasn't happened but maybe!!

(CNN)The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has told public health officials around the United States to prepare to distribute a potential coronavirus vaccine as soon as late October. It also provided planning scenarios to help states prepare.

The documents were posted by The New York Times and the CDC confirmed to CNN it has sent them to city and state public health officials.

The scenarios offer details about distribution for two Covid-19 vaccines when supplies "may be constrained." The documents prioritize particular populations for the vaccines, including health care professionals, essential workers, long-term care facility residents and staff and national security populations.

Let the "news" spin games begin! Latest chapter, vaccinations!

Which side is going to point out the world-ending dangers of a large-scale vaccination programme using ill-tested, unproven, long-term consequences of an unknown chemical?

Which side is going to point out the super powers and absolute beauty bestowed on everyone that gets the angel-honey injected into their veins?

Man I really pine for the days when I was ignorant as to the levels to which media is biased and truly believed what I was told by the "experts". Nowadays, the more they say, the less we know.

Most of the folks involved with Covid "data" haven't done that yet, why start now?

So one of the fears that the press is whipping up is that the Admin will rush a vaccine out the door right before the election in hopes of gaining some political advantage. Well according to the WSJ the CEO's of the major drug companies have signed a pledge that when it's made available it will have gone through proper testing and be safe.

    ____________________________

Nine drugmakers said Tuesday their chief executives signed a pledge promising to not file for regulatory approval or authorization of their experimental Covid-19 vaccines until the shots have shown to work safely through late-stage clinical testing.

The Wall Street Journal first reported on the companies’ pledge on Friday.

The pledge was signed by the heads of AstraZeneca PLC, GlaxoSmithKline PLC, Johnson & Johnson, Merck & Co., Moderna Inc., Novavax Inc., and Sanofi SA, BioNTech SE and Pfizer Inc.

At this point, one side of the "news" can create a hoax out of edited videos, manipulated data, and completely ignoring any information in conflict with their chosen narrative (Russia collusion, Charlottesville fine people hoax, injecting bleach hoax to name just three big ones).

One side of the "news" can also disappear a news event just by ignoring it (spying on the trump campaign and Flynn setup immediately come to mind).

Low-information voters are now the norm, not the exception. Until the voter chooses to view both sides of the media, as well as additional sources, and form their own opinion, this will remain the norm.

I also wonder what percent of Liberals get their majority of "news" and opinion from social media, vs. the facts as presented by (admittedly biased) "news" outlets. Is this higher or lower than Conservatives?

I will point out that Conservative voters are, on the average, more well informed by both sides than Liberal voters because of the pervasiveness of Left "news" bias. Conservatives largely can't avoid the Liberal viewpoint in MSM (and social media) sources. Whereas, Liberals are insulated against the Conservative viewpoint unless they HONESTLY seek it out. Today, it is very rare to see a Liberal honestly seek out alternative viewpoints without the intent to sabotage, cancel, disparage, demonize. Our own resident MCG once again provides the evidence for this over the last three years with his "honest efforts" to discuss and debate.

So, in response to Doc T, that is a good article, but I'm not very confident that it will see the light of day (for half of the country) if it doesn't support their narrative.

Check out this site if you have not already..... recommended by one of your in-house conservatives to see how your news sources measure up. You judge em yourself.
    Vox - Media Bias/Fact Check

Also..... the biggest influences on my beliefs about Trump by far come directly from his actions and especially his tweets and his spoken words in live press conferences that cannot be distorted by left media because I hear it with my own ears. No one in the history of the presidency has lied like Trump does so readily...... and he really doesn't seem to care because his base doesn't seem to care when he does.

And now we know what we already knew..... that Trump was lying through his teeth every time he downplayed Covid and said it was under control.... nothing to be overly concerned about.... who needs a mask?
McEnany defends Trump after Woodward book claims he said coronavirus 'deadly,' despite publicly downplaying it
According to Woodward, as recounted in The Washington Post, the president received a warning from national security adviser Robert O’Brien on Jan. 28 that the coronavirus epidemic would be the “biggest national security threat” of his presidency.

Can't wait to get the vaccine before November 3rd that this asshole will be touting..... and none of the medical field will be authorizing.

This is a fascinating (but half hour) video...watch it and let me know what you think. It is very reassuring in many ways...and uses science and analysis to try to show that the virus is passing normally through various countries and populations, that masks and lockdowns have little effect and may even be harmful (that harmful part comes at the very end of the video) and that countries that had a "soft" influenza death rate in the fall are the ones that had the highest from COVID in the spring and vice versa (meaning that many of the vulnerable population either survived flu season to perish from COVID or those with high death rates of influenza early on did not lose as many vulnerable folks later.) Oh and it also talks about issues/distortions caused by over testing.
