I want to correct my earlier post. CW did coach in college at So. Car. in the 80's but then was a HS coach before joining the Giants. As far as I can tell, he's never coached Oline although he has been a TE coach.
In any event, he's still in the middle of staff assembly and until he's found the best for each area, we're going to struggle.

The most depressing thing is that there is not one single positive that we can cling to like a life raft. For example:

We have rushed for -20 yards through three games!

We are averaging a yield of 8 sacks per game!! Clausen came to South Bend in a limo but he may leave in a hearse.

Based on our yardage per completion, it takes three successive completed passes for the Irish to get a first down!!!

Our DBs, thought to be the strength coming in, are getting worse each game!!!!

The most disconcerting is either watching Sam Young and Turkovich enjoying a hearty laugh on the sidelines in the 4th quarter after getting their asses kicked by whomever lined up across from them and the score at 0-38

    or

Weis standing on he sidelines with his face buried in his hands. At that moment he must have felt like General George Armstrong Custer, who's last words were reportedly "don't worry boys, we got 'em right where we want 'em."

Weis claimed in his post game statement that starting today he was re-opening training camp, that all 22 positions are open. I would love to see about 10-12 fresh faces next Saturday... minimum.

I figured staff changes in the off-season was a given, the remark about training camp is what I was kind of expecting. If Weis can improve game performance this season it will really bode well for ND in the long run. If he can't, well, I don't think y'all are going to be happy with this coach either.

Bill....I was just heading you off at the pass.

Any comment laced with realism that I made about ND would have been met with "MCG you don't know what you're talking about you flamer you" and "Weis is the man and ND is better than they look".

I do not intend to flame and pile on ND but their predicament does beg for commentary as their level of play is almost unprecedented in Notre Dame history.

I do have sympathy for the Irish fans because this is way too early in the season to lose hope for this year.

If CW is truly the real deal he will find a way to coach up some positives this season for the team and for the fans.

    Let's hope he does.

Yes. I think he will be handing the keys to the car to whoever wants to drive now. The older players have shown no heart or leadership.

Terry,

No. It doesn't worry me. They don't look like RP fumbles, they look like a freshman who doesn't even know if his 5th year senior, offensive captain can get him a flipping snap. There's no comfort. He has to be on edge for everything.

In that respect, it reminds me of RP. I'm hoping that we are able to protect Clausen better than that.</t>

MCG, this is a Notre Dame topic and from my standpoint knowing how the feel right now they don't need a lot of side comments from other people so I will only make these last few comments to you and I think it's best if you have anything more to say to or about me you do it either through e-mail or another topic.
    BS

This is of course nonsense and since most of your posts are of the flaming variety we may never know how I might react to a realistic post from you.

    Again BS

You not intending to flame or pile on?

    Surely you jest.

My last exchanges with you on this topic heed my advice and post to me elsewhere if you feel you must.

    You want flame...you got Gonzo...

I have said nothing about ND here that you haven't heard 100 times on ESPN since yesterday or read in all the newspapers or online.

I am not flaming ND just discussing the facts of the situation.

Most of what I have stated about ND is tame compared to what the media is saying.

I would be curious as to what you find to be a "flame"...which is generally unfounded....non-factual bravado statements or taunts thrown at fans of other teams.

Nothing I have posted in this topic fits any of the above.

I have not stated anything to purposely inflame ND fans....there is extreme factual basis for some of the comments I made and I wasn't trying to piss anyone off when making those comments.

<t>You love to talk about what ESPN et all have to say MCG:

On Oct 1st last season..

Washington was 4-1
ND was 4-1

Yet the media was still harping that Ty was shafted... And that ND's blowout loss to Michigan was 'proof' in concert with Washington's 4-1 start. They also pointed to ND winning with "Ty's talent".

For the rest of the season, Washington won one more game.... that's it. They didn't want to talk about it anymore.

Well here is ND with a bare cupboard and they don't want to talk about that. All they want to do is talk about ND's collapse...Without discussing the real root cause of it.

Of course, CW could have just given ESPN what they want...He could have thrown the upper classmen under the bus from the get-go to give ESPN what they want...Drama... Drama=ratings and stories...Now those kids have earned their spot under the bus.....if he were your head coach, which would you rather have?

They can't write because most of them don't know what they are talking about..They want the cheap and easy story. They want the tabloid article with big headlines.</t>

Good thing for Charlie that Ty lost handily to Ohio State on Sat.

That will kill the comparison talk for a while I think.

"Up next is Michigan State, who's 21st in the nation in total defense and 19th in scoring D."

CFN had other things to say but most has been said already.

    This won't get any easier.
