Well there were only 6 rain delays counting the one today but the Coral Gables regional was finally completed with Miami outlasting Texas A&M to advance on to the Super regional in Gainesville... Scott your Aggies played damn tough and have my respect and who knows how things might have ended up if all the rain delays did not stop play every five minutes.... Hopefully we do have a few pitchers rested up enough to play tough in "Hogtown"...Good luck Bill...I like the quote by Jim Morris: ``Two-out-of-three for the marbles to get to Omaha, [Neb.] That's what it's all about,'' said UM coach Jim Morris, referring to the College World Series. ``So we'll have at least one [Florida] team in Omaha and hopefully it's the good guys
Congrats Ralph! I knew it was a long shot, but at least my guys gutted it out and made your fellas earn it. Good luck the rest of the way!
Hey Ralph, I hope he's right and it's the good guys! We all know that the Gators are the goodest of the goodest don't we? Seriously it should be a good series.
These pairings are idiotic... who in the Carolina region has pictures of the NCAA board violating sheep? Anyway.. my 2 cents: -Texas-TCU (Texas in 3) -Oklahoma-Virginia (I really don't know).. Virginia has a great coach but they aren't there in terms of experience on this level.. then again, neither does OU... Coin flip but I'll take UVA -Alabama-Clemson (Clemson in 3) Clemson has way more experience here, but I wouldn't be surprised to see AL move on.. They got hot in the tourney and shocked a good (not great) GTech squad.. still, I think it's midnight for the Tide. -Miami-Florida (coin flip) I think the Canes are better.. Florida looked terrible in the SEC tourney.. then looked good in Regional.. We'll see. -South Carolina-Coastal Carolina (Coastal Carolina) please dear God please. -Vandy-Florida State (Florida State) Vandy has better pitching and D... but FSU plays in a phone booth and hits too well. -Arkansas-Arizona State: (ASU) should be a sweet, but we'll see. -CSUF-UCLA: (UCLA) but really.. who knows..
Watching the Canes at Gainesville in the 3rd inning at the moment, no score. The Gators pitcher looks pretty relaxed with a strong game at the moment... I was reading a few articles on Hurricane baseball and ran across this comment by ex UM star Ryan Braun.... • UM people said the economy and tuition costs are hurting the baseball program for UM and other private schools. UM has 11.7 baseball scholarships to divide among all players. Some also get financial aid, but not enough to cover all tuition ($36,962 for the 2010-11 academic year) and housing. Some parents can't afford it and steer their children toward cheaper state schools. ``It presents a problem; it ties their hands,'' ex-UM star Ryan Braun said. That's not a lot of schollies...
KP, They haven't earned a damned thing. They play a garbage regional schedule. They get what they get simply because they have a nice home facility and draw big crowds for their games.. somehow, that equates into hosting regionals and super regionals in the NCAA's eyes. LSU WON the SEC Tournament and got sent to LA to deal with UCLA and UC Irvine.. both of whom are at least as good, if not better, than any team LSU played in conference.. Where is their reward? SCAR had a good record against a weak schedule. They went 2 and out in the SEC Tournament.. Why give them the keys to the Mercedes? It's not that I have anything against SCAR, it is that they've earned nothing and have been given everything. They were in the weakest region and get to face the most suspect of the 'national seeds' in the Supers....
Corey, I was just wondering. Their coach seems to be well respected and they have a pretty good CWS history.
he's a great coach and they have a great program. My beef is that they seem to have (without having ever proven anything truly) their own personal on ramp built for them into the CWS.
Gators are in the CWS, Texas blasted TCU yesterday winner of todays game goes to Omaha. It would be a huge upset if Texas does not go to the CWS.
Geez, I can't even beat Terry to news even when it's about the Gators. Corey, S. Carolina had the 2nd best regular season record in the SEC. The Gators and Gamecocks were tied for the SEC lead coming to the last weekend of the season and the Gators took 2/3 in Columbia to win the SEC regular season Championship with S. Carolina second. I don't know the exact reason they got the easy regional, but I do know they are surely not an NCAA favorite.
Miami played perhaps the sloppiest game defensively that I've ever seen at the college level. SEVEN errors......three at critical times late in the game when they had it won........one in particular on a routine ground ball to the SS which should have ended the game. Instead it opened the door for FL to tie the game. Another which allowed FL to get into position to score the winning run. It's a shame. The Miami SP pitched a great game. So also did the FL SP, but the league's leading closer and 1st round draft choice gave up a 3-run HR to the first batter he faced. All in all, a sloppy game by Miami but a W nonetheless for FL. Then ESPN switched to the remainder of the UCLA-CSF game. While CSF did not commit 7 errors, they blew a lead that would have closed out the series and committed a key error which allowed UCLA to score the winning run and even the series at 1-1. Give UCLA credit. They clawed back and took advantage of walks and a dropped fly ball in the 10th to pull it out. Not a pretty day - on TV at least - for college baseball.
I'll take an ugly win any day over a beautiful loss. Amazing though that Miami made that many errors. Both the tying run in the 9th and the winning run in the 10th happened because of errors.
Crap, TCU beat Texas. I can't believe we aren't going to the CWS. This was one of the best Texas teams in years.
