The Aggies opened with a 17-1 beatdown of Miami Oh.
I haven't checked up on my team much coming into this season.
I know we have a Friday lefty as our ace, but behind him I have no idea.
Can't take much from the first game, but we did drive the ball well.
Hope "springs" eternal for a trip back to Omaha.

I don't think anybody knows what to expect of the Irish this year. New coach and high hopes for the program to climb back to respectability. But we won't know for awhile.

    BIRMINGHAM, Alabama —
The University of Notre Dame baseball team kicked off the Link Jarrett era with a 4-2 win over UAB Friday afternoon after a strong pitching performance from junior lefty Tommy Sheehan. The Brielle, N.J. native tossed seven scoreless innings and set a career high with nine strikeouts to lead the Irish to the season opening win.

Irish go 2-1 in the series vs UAB. Good start.

I didn't know there was a Big 10/ACC Challenge in Softball, but there is and it was held at multiple ACC sites. ACC won 25-19. The Irish went 4-0 beating Ohio State and Illinois twice each at Raleigh (NC State).

How about this.... Michigan becomes the 1st Big 10 team in history to be ranked #1 by Baseball America!

After Opening Weekend in college baseball, there is a new No. 1 team in the Baseball America Top 25. After an impressive 3-1 weekend, Michigan rises to the top of the rankings.

Michigan started the season by beating Vanderbilt, Cal Poly and Arizona State in the span of a little more than 24 hours. With two wins away from home against teams that began the season ranked in the top three of the rankings, the Wolverines had the most impressive weekend of any team in the nation.

Michigan has never before been ranked No. 1 in the 40-year history of the Baseball America Top 25. It becomes the first Big Ten team to be ranked No. 1.

Florida, Miami and Texas Tech follow Michigan after posting perfect weekends at home. Vanderbilt, which was No. 1 in the Preseason Top 25 falls to No. 5 after a pair of one-run losses at the MLB4 Tournament at Salt River Fields in Talking Stick, Ariz

    College Baseball Top 25 Rankings

Season is young of course, and the Longhorns did sweep Rice this opening weekend, but we are not ranked in the top 25. Texas has a long history of excellence that seems to be sliding away right now. David Pierce who took over for Augy is in his 4th year now and is just .500 in B12 play. 4 years is enough time to get a program to a high level.

Wow... the Aggies "run ruled" Prairie View last night after 7. Actually the teams just agreed with bad weather approaching, and the score 30-2... it might be wise to call it.
27 runs in the first 2 innings kinda sewed this one up for the Maroon.

Softball has a run rule, if you are ahead by at least 8 runs after 5 innings the game is over.

College Baseball does have a Mercy Rule..but it's different.

A mercy rule may be in use, which terminates play when one team is ahead by 10 or more runs after seven innings (6½ innings if the home team is winning). In games that are scheduled for seven innings the rule takes effect in the fifth. This rule is not used in NCAA tournament games. Several conferences institute this rule only on Sundays or the final day of a conference series so that the visiting team can travel early. In some conferences, the mercy rule may also be used to end such games in order to start the next tournament game sooner.

btw... PV is BAD... I mean really bad. Not sure how many errors they had, but some of them were just not catching the ball stuff.

Gators off to our best start ever and ranked number 1.

We went to Miami for a three game series ranked number 2 behind Miami at number won. We won all three by close margins.

We had the annual baseball tournament in Houston this past week, called the College Classic. It was a SEC vs B12 affair. Baylor dominated, going 3-0 and Arkansas who was ranked #9 had a bad weekend going 0-3. OU no-hit LSU. Longhorns went 1-2 losing to LSU and Missouri and beating Arkansas. Longhorns were undefeated going into the series. It's played at Minute Maid Park.

More of the same mediocrity from the Aggies under Childress.
Look great when you overmatch teams, but as soon as some decent arms show up our offense melts away, our crumby defense appears, and bullpen craters.
0-3 this weekend at the Frisco tournament...
I'm sure we'll be a #2 seed in a regional somewhere... and maybe get by a weak host only to lose in the super.
    Rinse repeat.

I feel like too much ass to get out here lately, but I have to admit, that I long for a day along the baselines with a big bag of seeds, a 64oz something to drink and a double dip of baseball. Hopefully, I feel better, so I can check out some Vandy ball this year.

Well, Alabama is undefeated and ranked in some polls but we have not played a ranked team yet. It also appears that almost all of the teams on our conference schedule are ranked so we will see how this goes.

Scott, I read an article in The Athletic that said your Asa Lacy is the top LHP in the June draft, likely not the first player taken but possibly the first pitcher.

Yeah... Lacy is very very good.
Childress can find and develop SOME pitchers (We usually have 2 outstanding starters)... its the rest of the team where we are always lacking.
Lacy got a No Decision against Illinois. Left the game late after scattering two hits
... and giving up nothing. Bullpen and bad D promptly lost the game after getting no run support. NONE.

Irish open the ACC season this weekend at UNC. We will see what our new coach has done, so far while we have a good record it's not exactly against elite level teams. The ACC is an excellent baseball conference so weakness will be exposed.
