He found out during the press conference. The kid had told him he raked back in HS. It's quite possible LSU never had any intention on this kid hitting, so they never went to see him on a day in which he wasn't pitching.

In the press conference, he admitted to lying to the coach and that he had only taken BP back in HS, but he 'totally raked in BP.' Everyone had a good laugh about it. Coach M even said "Wait, you lied to me!?" and they all just burst out laughing.

They lost the DH when they pulled a double switch and the DH entered the game. It's a pretty common move in college baseball. It's just not that often that the pitcher winds up hitting, you normally pinch hit for him. But it was the 12th inning and players were getting low. Coach M told him not to swing the bat, but then the other team changed pitchers and Coach M asked him if he thought he could handle a fastball, to take his shot.. The kid roped one down the line for a 2 run double. Then he did a celebration while standing on 2nd base that should have told everyone that he was a pitcher who finally got to hit.. It was hilarious.

    WARNING: SEC CONSPIRACY THEORY FOLLOWS!
    8)

After taking a look at the bracket... I have to say it looks pretty obvious the committee did NOT want a chance for an SEC final in Omaha.

    Left side RPI
    1. Florida
    3. Arkansas
    6. Ole Miss
    9. Georgia
    14. Auburn
    15. Texas A&M
    43. South Carolina

    Right side RPI
    28. Mississippi St.
    34. LSU
    38. Vanderbilt

Would it have been too hard to put Arky or Ole Miss in the right side to balance things a little bit??

I'm just glad the Aggies made it in. The way we limped to the end of the season, that was definitely up for debate...

Cougars are a pretty good club. Won the AAC regular season.

Texas has kind of a gimmie first round game, so should be have a good shot at the finals vs likely Texas A&M...that should be good for attendance. Just the presence of A&M and Texas in the regional means likely sellouts abound.

Longhorns do have to get the stink left by the flame out in the B12 tourney off their uniforms though.

I see that the SEC dominated with 10 teams and the ACC was the closest with 6 teams, B12 had 5 teams.

God do I hate this 'regional' format. In theory, the best from each region goes but when you have 10 teams out of 1 conference, you can hardly keep a true 'regional' feel to it.

for example, the Pac12 has 4 teams selected. That's the same number as the B1G.

The Big West conference has just one team, Cal state Fullerton..

it's a crock, but it really does fall back on those schools to build massive facilities not only to keep their instate talent home (and out of the SEC) but to show the NCAA they will make money for them in the SR....

Yeah I find it odd that California which produces the most MLB players by far, almost doubling Texas and doubling Fla, yet the West Coast Colleges don't really do all that well in the NCAA's. Stanford has been solid, USC under the departed Rod Dedeaux was King, Az and AZ State have had runs. But the dominance of the SEC can't be explained by the MLB numbers.

The Aggies start off facing Indiana.

Ags take the lead with 7 in the top of the 4th...
Pitcher Zach Doxakis loses a no hitter in the bottom of the 4th. So far he has struck out 10.

Stu, check out my post this morning on "Notre Dame Summer". It's a link to an Indy Star article on Purdue's coach.

    Wow... FSU has been eliminated!

Stu's Boilers are bouncing back in their second game leading 14-3.

Indiana eliminates Texas Southern, and will face loser of the Aggie-Horn tussle tonight.

And for Corey... Fullerton will face Stanford tonight...

Was out last night so didnt see any ball.
Terry's Horns sent the Ags to the loser bracket to face Indiana again.
I see that Fullerton beat Stanford.
The Buckeyes were eliminated but Purdue is still in...
Minnesota has command of their region so the BIG has a couple of options...

    Scott,

When I saw that the Hoosiers were leading the Aggies, it was a big surprise. I was shocked when I saw that Indiana scored nine runs in the first inning! If A&M can pull this one out, it will be a huge win. :D

Ag's rally in the bottom of the 9th fell short.

IU vs Texas in the Regional Final. I like our chances. I think IU pitching staff is probably exhausted. Roger Clemens kid Kody is the star of this regional.

I like how this team got better as the year went on, have no explanation for the failure in the B12 tourney, but didn't really matter.

Cougars eliminated Purdue and are battling UNC right now.

-It's Florida vs Florida Atlantic in a charmin soft grouping in Gainesville.
-Cal State Fullerton eliminates the #2 national seed Stanford in Palo Alto.
-Oregon State just hammered their region and specifically LSU outscoring them by a combined 26-1 in their 2 meetings to advance to the Super Regionals.
-Things are all backed up in the Ole Miss region, but the Rebels should still win it in a walk away.
-Arkansas won their home region easily, it was a terrible grouping.
-North Carolina won a very tough and competitive regional at home to advance.
-A very competitive field in Tallahassee saw the home Noles sent home early, followed by Samford. Meanwhile OU and Miss State play a winners take all game tomorrow.
-It's Georgia and Duke in the Athens region. This region was fairly soft and Georgia should win it easily.
-Vanderbilt just pounded Clemson to take the Clemson regional.
-Stetson won their regional which wasn't really that tough, but give the Hatters credit, they've come a long way.
-Texas wins the Austin regional despite a good showing by Indiana.
-Minnesota knocks off UCLA twice to take their regional and advance.
-Auburn just crushed an absolutely terrible Raleigh regional to advance.

Oh and Kudo's to IU, they battled the Longhorns tooth and nail last night.

They had a ground rule double that by rule forced the runner on 1st to stop at 3rd when he likely would have scored and tied the game at 3-3. Then they had the bases loaded in the 9th but we brought in a pitcher who struck the final 2 guys.

Oh and Rogers kid Kody Clemens was named 1st team AA. Rajah must be proud.

The Ole Miss/Tenn Tech game today decides where the Longhorns will be in the Super Regionals. If Ole Miss wins Longhorns travel to Oxford, if it's Tenn Tech then they will host the Super Regional in Austin. Big crowds for all the Longhorn games in the Regional.
