Miami allows the media 17 minutes to cover each practice which includes warm up time so it's not a whole lot of time for the media. In essence he's doing the same thing as Strong but with a cherry on top.
Interesting article on 10 Best Coaches in close games: http://www.cbssports.com/college-football/news/best-and-worst-college-football-coaches-in-close-games-entering-2016/ Urban Meyer has faired better than I realized. Brian Kelly not doing too bad either.
Pretty big gap between Urban and the rest of the field. I wonder what Kelly's record is if you just consider UC and ND? Also no Saban. I guess he hasn't played enough close games to qualify!
Mike Bobinski, former Irish Baseball ('79 Graduate) player and current AD at Ga. Tech was named the new Ath. Director at Purdue. Good luck to him, hope he does a good job and maybe he can be a catalyst to get Purdue back on the schedule sometime in the future. Maybe we can rotate between playing Purdue and Mich State or something like that.
Sometimes you read things and go ..whaaaaaaaaaaaaaat? So ESPN Insider has a series going rating the position groups. The most recent is OL's. No real surprises, except that I think the Irish have a very good OL, but it is light on experience. But even though we didn't make the top 15 and Indiana did, I wouldn't trade lines with them. But this description of the Ohio State OL just made me laugh. Did not meet expectations? Almost 250 yds/game running, based on the NFL draft cleared the way for the top back in college. Only 19 sacks. What the hell were the expectations?
It's that time of year in which guys are writing just to write. The real story is right around the corner, we've had a pretty scandal free year (in terms of off-season) and there's just not much to do other than drop the puck at this point.
 I wouldn't trade any player on the Irish roster for any player on the Indiana roster. Are they kidding?
The latest extravagances in the college sports arms race? Laser tag and mini golf</B><B>. The people in charge of Clemson University’s athletic department have not settled on a design for the miniature golf course they are building for their football team, but they know it will have just nine holes, not 18. That will leave room for the sand volleyball courts, laser tag, movie theater, bowling lanes, barber shop and other amenities planned in the $55 million complex that South Carolina’s second-largest public university is building exclusively for its football players. “It’ll be their home on campus, when they’re not in class” said Clemson athletics spokesman Joe Galbraith of a building that represents the latest innovation in the athletic facilities arms race that is costing many of America’s largest public universities hundreds of millions of dollars and shows no signs of subsiding. https://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/colleges/for-college-athletic-departments-building-the-best-is-never-ending-task/2015/12/21/e8384dd4-a558-11e5-9c4e-be37f66848bb_story.html https://youtu.be/pXjpUSOxIBw
Yes lets isolate them as much as possible from the regular students. That will make for a great college experience.
Terry, I agree. Weren't athletic dorms eliminated? I understand the desire to have nice facilities but this is getting out of hand.
I was really looking forward to this season, even with a very young team. We have only two seniors on the roster this fall. One on offense and one on defense. However, I see most of the media and Las Vegas is saying that the Crimson Tide will win it all again this fall, Alabama will win their second straight National Championship. Congratulations Kp, I think? Mind you this is my curse of Death!
Football has certainly been lean, and that's a problem fiscally for the Athletic Department, but overall I think that Morgan Burke has done a good job and made good hires. Basketball seems to have recovered and non-revenue sports are pretty strong. A lot of criticism of Burke (and Mitch Daniels) from alums saying they are not committed to a winning football program, but I don't necessarily feel that way.
My brother knew Bobinski when he was at Xavier and everybody really liked him. Said that he left because he felt like unless he had a Div1 football program as part of his resume' he'd have a hard time advancing. That was why he left for Ga.Tech. No idea why he left Ga.Tech for Purdue if football was his focus, but maybe he didn't feel like he fit in the South and wanted to get back to the Midwest, but I would think he wouldn't have taken the Purdue job if there wasn't at least a promise that they would focus more resources on restoring the football program. Not sure why Purdue can't have a good program, most of their B10 competition has no gold mine of talent in their backyard and have to recruit in the South and West and of course have good coaches that can develop the talent. That's what has happened at Mich State, Dantonio doesn't get the talent based on hs star rankings but he sure develops it.
Chris Petersen, I thought he wasn't doing very well at UW. I mean he was the King of the Group of 5 for so long at Boise State I figured when he went to the Pac12 he'd be exposed as just another good but not great coach who was very successful at a lesser place. But reading the pre-season predictions. Chris Petersen has the UW Huskies on the rise and could be a challenger for the Pac12 title this year. So I guess he didn't take over a juggernaut and has been rebuilding quietly up in the Pacific Northwest. http://www.espn.com/blog/pac12/post/_/id/102269/jake-browning-might-become-washingtons-version-of-kellen-moore
The Tide had a 5* CB from Texas bail on them this week. Kendall Sheffield, was a stud in the 2015 class. I wonder where he'll end up. He won't end up in the SEC though, as he won't get a release to do that, so while he was an A&M recruit he won't be going there.
Dont be so sure of that Terry. Word has it Sheffield is going to Blinn for the fall ( no release required), and will complete his hours required to "graduate" from JUCO and then is free to transfer anywhere.
Can he go to Blinn for the fall semester and then transfer to A&M and go on scholarship for Spring Drills? Or will he have to spend the year at Blinn and graduate before he can go to A&M or any other SEC school? That seems like a pretty big loophole in the SEC rule if so.
As I predicted many years ago, Lloyd Carr is stepping down for health reasons! He's stepping down from the Colllege Football playoff committee. http://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/17346769/lloyd-carr-steps-cfp-selection-committee-cites-health
Terry, It has to do with the fact he has completed a certain number of hours and also didn't play for his original school. I'll try to get the full scoop when I get home...
