Thought is was going to be a blah week for college football but the LSU-FL and SC-UCLA games were sensational.

My nephew, Ben Harris, quarterbacked his team to his 4th straight Oklahoma State 5A championship last night. He is 52-2 in 4 years as the starting QB. No QB in Oklahoma HS history has won 4 championships as the starter, ever. He's now a Legend! Still only has offers from Oklahoma Central U and Pittsburgh State.

It was also the 5th straight Championship for Carl Albert, it's the 2nd time they have run off 5 straight, but the previous time involved multiple QB's. Jenks from the Tulsa area has run off 6 previously but again with multiple QB's.

Ben also has 2 things in common with Phillies Catcher J.T.Realmuto, both QB's Carl Albert to State Championships and played baseball at Carl Albert. Ben is a good baseball player but doesn't have any college baseball offers at this point either.

Terry, how big is your nephew? What type of offense do they run? Can he throw a 20yd. out pass to the wide side of the field?

USC if they win the Pac12 Championship game will finish 6-0, Ohio State if they win the Big 10 Championship game will finish 6-0. I wonder where USC will be in Tues CFP rankings, they were #15. Could they zoom up the rankings?

Gip, Ben has grown from 5'10" 160 as a freshman to 6'2" 210 as a Senior. Like most QB's these days Ben is nearly 100% in the Shotgun, with 1 back. They do run some heavy with multiple TE's and some spread with 4 WR's. They prefer to run the ball, not likely for Ben to throw the ball more than 25 times. As far as arm strength, I don't really know. Due to the Internet I've been able to watch a lot of his games and I really can't tell how strong his arm is, he's thrown for about 9K yards in his 4 years, but that's not really a lot for a 4 year starter. He's a good athlete and can run the ball, he's not the type of runner that Book is probably more like guys we see in Joe Burrow, Mac Jones, Kyle Trask, they all can run but not like Kyler Murray, Book, Lamar Jackson or even Baker Mayfield.

It's not like college coaches haven't seen him, he's been to some of those Nike Camps and he's been to Neb, Notre Dame, Iowa State, Missouri, and Arkansas...but no offers. He also has teammates who are at Div 1 schools, his RB this year is an Arkansas verbal...so college coaches have seen his team play.

He reminds me of some of the walk-ons we get at Notre Dame, when you look at their HS resume they all accomplished quite a bit and won a lot of games, state championships, etc. But ended up as walk-ons.

While not the same this Freshman Walk-On QB at ND reminds me of the situation Ben is in....great HS career but for whatever the reason not a hot commodity on the QB market.

I know what you're talking about Terry. When I played interhall football at ND I recall being run over by guys who turned out to be all-state from Montana who always wanted to go to ND and didn't get offers.

I heard from an old friend, Stephen Finn, he's still living in Columbus Ohio, is retired. Has had a rough go medically for a couple of years was confined to a wheel chair but after some surgeries and all he's back upright and walking. Said he hasn't been to ND since 2011. He was a regular part of the Mishawaka Brewing Company crew in the early days and he had Stu, G-Man and I over to his house for Friday dinner before the 2005 Texas/Ohio State game. I think he somehow knew G-Man, not sure of the connection there though. He said to tell everybody hello.

Former UCF Qb, MacKenzie Milton, to FSU. I hope he succeeds that was a horrible injury.

Huge difference between walk-on and "preferred" walk-on.

Gosh I remember that...I had forgotten. Tell him Hi if you hear from him again. If I remember right he had a really cool older home in a nice area east of campus...off Indianola or Summit, I think.

Stu I do remember it being an older well maintained home. I'm pretty sure he got us (you, me, Josh and Gerry). the tickets for the game. He had a connection with the Athletic Dept at Ohio State.
I also remember the 5 star hotel we stayed at!:eek:

Give my best to Stephen also. He was always like a member of the resistance broadcasting from the heart of enemy territory.

Do you remember that somebody broke into my room and stole my wallet? My fault because I didn't ensure the door was latched properly.

A very depressing paragraph to read in 11 Warriors regarding the 2021 signing class

In other words, 60% percent of the top 100 prospects that are going to play in the Big 10 are playing for OSU. The remaining 40% are scattered about in the other 13 teams.
