I am wondering if anyone has a great defense this year? I wonder how much of it is due to COVID-19 impact?
Yeah but look at the yardage. UK is moving the ball and then they miss FGs, get penalties, snap the ball over the holder's head. They are their own worst enemy. This effort will be good enough to beat Kentucky, but not Florida, or Clemson or Ohio State.
Talking about defense, the Whisky /Northwestern game has turned into a field position defensive struggle. I do think that the Alabama /Florida SEC Championship game is going to be a high scoring shootout.
Northwestern goes to 5-0, Freshman wunderkind Graham Mertz returns to earth in a big way for Wisconsin. Looking at the remaining games for Northwestern they could run the table to the Big 10 Championship game. Iowa continues the misery for Penn State, as they lose again at home and fall to 0-5.
UC drives the field and decided not to try and score instead chose to run the clock and sew up the game. So on the last play it was almost a disaster! Bad snap that could've bounced into the UCF guy and maybe a game winner TD, but UC guy jumped on it and UCF had 1 sec from 7 yd line... the lateral play didn't work and the Bearcats continued undefeated. I haven't really watched UC, but from what I have seen of the QB he looks like a really good play maker.
I predict.either next year or the year after, Fickell gets a job at a Big 10 or Big 12 school with a big salary, a big buyout and does not win a conference championship or any other championship, gets fired after a.few years and becomes a coordinator somewhere.
Great victory for NU. Small private school with difficult admission standards for athletics but Barnett, Walker, and Fitzgerald built a program that can beat state universities with greater resources and lesser academic standards.
Certainly the record of coaches who move up from the mid majors to a high profile job is fraught with many more failures than successes. Urban Meyer, Jim Tressell, Brian Kelly come to mind, but way more failure. Face it, the type of success that fans want is difficult to achieve.
Terry, there have successful ones, but I wonder how many have had multimillion dollar buyouts right off of the bat?
Looks like Harbaugh has benched Milton and is going with Cade McNamara. I see that Georgia has gone with JT Daniels at QB and he has 3 TDs and almost 300 yds passing. Leach has countered with Will Rodgers, who I thought was dead, but apparently is reincarnated as a Freshman QB for Mississippi State and it's 24 - 24!
