Seems like all football schools provide their players with plenty of Wheaties. Sometimes these players are better than you think and the FBS players are just wanting to get rid of the beer hangover from the parties the night before and then you have games like Citadel beating SouCar and FAU almost beating UF.
Yeah it's the money and the desire to have 7 home games a year. The problem is, to do so you have to find someone who will not want a return visit. Big Boys don't want that type of arrangement so for 7 home games you have to rent a patsie. ND has managed to do that but they have a Shamrock series neutral site game that allows them to schedule someone like Miami in Chicago without the need for a return visit. They also had a 2 for 1 arrangement with BC. Unless some major programs are willing to play only 5 home games a year and not have home and homes, schools that want to play a complete FBS schedule will have to play 6 home games.
Needing home games is an issue. When it came up that the Purdue series with ND was not going to be continued, the Purdue AD said that looking down the line to a 9 game B1G schedule that a home/home with ND could end up with them not having enough home games. That they need a min of 6 and in years that they play at ND getting that could be a problem.
