Right now it does look like Mich is the best team in the B1G this year. I think Ohio State has the better players, but something is missing from the team. Maybe it's the hangover from the whole Urban Meyer issue that resulted in him being embroiled in controversy for several months missing the whole pre-season workouts and the 1st 3 games. The loss of Nick Bosa can't have helped but they aren't the only team to have lost a big time player. The Irish lost their best OL, other teams have had injuries as well. That Longhorn loss yesterday really hurt, now we have to go on the road to Texas Tech. While OU and West Virginia have a date Thanksgiving weekend to likely decide who goes to the championship game. If West Virginia wins and Texas wins out, they would own the tie breaker over OU and play West Virginia for the B12 Championship. That would be cool! I couldn't make it to the end of the Wazzu game, but was surprised it was such a low scoring game. Cougars control their destiny. Sorry to read that the Utah QB broke his collar bone and is done for the season he was having his best year and the Utes had a great shot at the Pac12 south, they still do of course as Kes pointed out but it's a lot tougher now.
TOK, Relax, Michigan is not jumping over ND on Tuesday. Quit paying attention to the conspiracy theorists at NDNation.
Bobda, At least we will be able to enjoy a nice Thanksgiving before the slaughter on the Saturday after!
I think we score more than 10 vs Bama. Maybe I'm wrong. There's a lot of good football ahead of us for all to enjoy.
Bama, Clemson, ND, Michigan, Georgia, OU. The top 6 in the polls. It's amazing that the Longhorns didn't drop i in either poll after the home loss. Still #15.
Clemson 240 - 36 in the last 4 games, Lawrence only threw for 49 yards, but they ran for almost 500 yds. They are 1b to Bama 1a
Yeah, looks to me like Bama, Clemson and Notre Dame are locks with the 4th spot up for grabs with Michigan as the favorite.
One of these was called targeting and CONFIRMED targeting, (not upheld, but confirmed) and the wsu player ejected last night. The other, the p12 offices insist was REALLY CLOSE but the usc player just didnt meet the definition of targeting. pic.twitter.com/yEOPfjnhJS PAC 12 refs strike again. There is a growing contingent in coug nation that thinks the refs and larry scott are in payback mode after being embarrassed by leach on their incompetence. It still is probably nothing but incompetence, but this one again involved the replay booth where there is still no transparency. Disgusting. In the end, i could even support the application of the rule where this is flagged to protect the players, but this is egregiously different from all the other targeting calls and non-calls yesterday that this doesnt appear to be the attempted direction. Incompetence, PAC12 offices dominate the term once again.
Alabama is giving up an average of almost 16 pts. a game. It would surprise me if a team like Notre Dame didn't score at least that much. We are very good but not unbeatable. If we play our best, which we didn't last Saturday, then we may very well be the best in the country. We just beat the #3 team in the country convincingly. Now some folks are intimating the the #3 team in the country is not really very good. I welcome the next game because it is a chance to once again move forward to the playoffs. Maybe it'll be a close game. :?
Oh snap, that was the same PAC 12 crew that officiated the usc game? Geezus. Https://cdn.vox-cdn.com/uploads/chorus_asset/file/13385303/1057159450.jpg.jpg https://www.cougcenter.com/platform/amp/2018/11/4/18061266/good-bad-ugly-of-wsu-cougars-football-win-over-the-cal-golden-bear-refs
Even I know a face mask when I see it. That picture of targeting on the Wazzu kid, how in the hell did they call that? BTW: For our Skybox Buckeyes....be sure Ohio State players know that when Mich comes to the Shoe that they are ruthless! https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/ncaab/bigten/2018/11/04/michigan-football-jim-harbaugh-penn-state/1884335002/
I was watching the game along with Kes. I don't mind that the flag was thrown, the kid's head did snap which is an indicator in real time. But the replay clearly showed the defender's helmet (face up mind you) hitting the receiver's shoulder and upper arm. NOT... the head/neck area. A quick reversal and everyone would be happy with the call and ruling.. BUT... incompetence probably doesn't cover it at this point. They really don't seem to have a clue what's going on. I'm guessing they've got a spinner up in the booth, and a bunch of little slots that say "TARGETING" and one that says "NOT TARGETING". Somehow... during the USC game... the not came up.
I was listening to Greg McElroy this morning on the way in, and he was doing the Color on that WSU/CAL game. He talked about the twitter post that Kes shared here, where the guys head was in the chest of the player. He said that gives a false impression, that if you back up a few frames from that screen grab you see the helmet right in the CAL players face mask. Said it was a good call. But said that all across college football this is being treated differently, that it's a real problem that needs to be corrected so there can be some consistency in the calls. Said it starts with the definition of a defenseless player. I doubt if any of you watched the Texas/WVa game, but there was a call I don't think I've ever seen. Sam Ehlinger was QB sneaking on 4th down and it was close and it looked like he made it, but his helmet came off during the play. It went to replay and they determined that his helmet came off before he made the 1st down and therefore the play was immediately dead at that point and he didn't get the 1st down.
Well Kansas fired David Beaty this weekend. The first of many I'm sure. His record isn't good this is his 4th year and his record to date is 6-39. Good luck though in finding that guy who can make KU into a good football program like they had with Mangino. Other hot seat coaches have to Bobby Petrino of Louisville and Clay Helton of USC. Petrino's team has been putrid this fall but I'll bet his buyout is not very friendly to Louisville. Clay Helton of USC, how can a guy who has won the Pac12 South 2x in his 1st 3 years and not out of it for the Pac12 South this year. But it's USC and those guy expect to dominate the Pac12 not have to compete toe to toe with the Pac12 north teams for like they have been since Pete Carroll left. They have CAL and UCLA left in the Pac12, and CAL will be a tough game, and of course finish with ND. Could lose 2 out of last 3 and 4 out of last 6. Not a plan to make USC alums happy.
When we watched it live, I was on the same page as McElroy, and he instantly said "they'll call that every time". Then they showed the replay, and his initial impression was wrong. They may say he went high on a defenseless player (which McElroy also tried to associate with the tackle) but he hit him in the shoulder/chest area, not up around the head and neck area. Watching the full replay changed my mind from "dammit, that sucks" to "well, you gotta throw the flag and take a look at it". Then when they came back, after watching that hit and CONFIRMED it? If I can find video of the hit I'll post it, and I could be remembering it wrong as well, but it was pretty clear he didn't hit him high.
I had seen that called before, although not by the ball carrier. A defender lost his helmet, then continued playing to make a tackle, called illegal participation?
Dave is this true? https://collegefootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2018/11/05/no-19-floridas-homecoming-crowd-its-smallest-since-1990/
OSU Band did something really cool at halftime of the game against NE. Thanks for honoring Tyler folks.
I think those per seat "contributions" have hurt ticket sales at Gator games in recent years. The LSU game atmosphere was phenomenal.... so it sounds like Saturday's showing or lack of by the crowd would have disappointed me.
