I see Golson threw 4 TD passes. Good for him. I hope he has a great season. For those who didn't see it, here's BYU's Hail Mary pass to win the game: <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/_bEPylRzJcc" frameborder="0"></iframe>
As always the banana republic of Miami must be different than everyone else..Our season started with a plane flying overhead pulling a sign saying "Temple Coach, Temple Results, Fire Al Golden.... Our big number game time crowd was 43,000, there was a 75 minute lightning delay in the 2nd quarter and then the refs reduced the playing time of the 3rd & 4th quarters to 10 minutes, this totally messed up the betting line even though Miami won 45-0 but games must be played 55 minutes to legally wager on them... End result for Cane fans is that we played a preseason game against Bethume Cookman and lost our two starting receivers, fans still hate our coach enough to hire planes to fly banners and it's rainy in summertime in Florida..... Oh yeah, Temple won yesterday, our true freshman running back will make us forget Duke Johnson and even though we are a very young team Golden has recruited remarkable Florida talent that will make it fun to watch this season.
Thank you Don, I hope we give a few surprises to a few teams this season. I am looking forward to tonight's game...
Well I'm shocked all the favorites didn't win!!! Stanford didn't even score a TD! Is the bloom off the David Shaw rose sort of like it went off of Coker's at Miami once all of Butch Davis recruits were gone? Penn State? OMG, Temple? Hackenberg a potential top 10 pick? Well maybe it's not fair to judge him since he spent most of the afternoon on his arse. Neb? Lose at home on a Hail Mary from the backup QB? That has to hurt, but it's not a bad loss. BYU QB done for the year, that's too bad the kid is a very good college QB, and to think they were trying to keep him healthy this year by telling him not to run. Michigan? A loss, but again not a bad loss, it's on the road against a good coach and a more mature team. Harbaugh might be an odd duck but I don't think he forgot how to coach and he's already bringing in a lot of talent in the 2016 recruiting class. So he's going to get there. Aggies? I seem to remember a similar first game vs a ranked So. Carolina team last year. So we'll see. But I don't blame Scott for being pumped. Kyler Murray apparently flashed some stuff as well. They'll be a top 25 team on the rise in the next poll. Alabama? Just a workman like destruction of a team that is year in and year out a very solid team. Solid defense, Solid Running, Solid play from QB. Going to be same old same old...top 5 team. Miami...good start even if it is vs a puff. Wazzu...ugh, is the Pirate ship taking water? USC ..they kept Sark away from the stuff and got a good result. UCLA...Rosen, the real deal? Apparently so.. Vols...another good start. SEC lost only 1 game this weekend...Vanderbilt. Wash Huskies...not a happy return home for the coach. TCU and Baylor...they got the wins and maybe they'll stop reading about how good they are and start focusing on actually being as good as advertised. Gators...600yds of offense!! Doesn't that exceed the annual production under Coach Boom? Ohio State coming tomorrow and Purdue and Marshall today. Good start!!
Stanford looked just awful on offense. It's not like they were starting a new QB, Hogan has been there for a while. I've got to comment on the end of the Nebraska game. I thought Riley did a poor job. When the Huskers failed to get a first down with a little over a minute to go, he didn't let the clock run down to 1 sec. and then call a time out. Instead, he had his FG team rush out on the field and the ball was snapped with about 5 sec. to go on the 45 sec. clock. After rushing out on the field, the kicker missed. Instead of milking the clock and using a TO Riley instead used TO before the last 2 BYU plays. This allowed them to discuss a play and get their personnel into the game. With those few seconds saved by the NU FG attempt, BYU got to run a play with 1 sec. to go. I don't know what he told his D backs in that last time out but they sure as hell weren't ready for the obvious Hail Mary. How were the Sun Devils so highly thought of? I didn't think much of them last year even though they beat the Irish. 106 ND turnovers including 2 pick sixes might have helped. Not to diminish the effort by aTM which was a very good win. Got to watch about 1 1/2 quarters of the Va.-UCLA game. Here were we ND fans worring about Zaire who's been on the team for the past 2 years while Rosen has been in high school. The kids poise and play were really impressive. Alabama was impressive in running over the Badgers. Fortunately for Whisky, there isn't that much in the West Division. I wasn't impressed with Auburn's QB. If it weren't for the TD the defense scored they would have had a real struggle with Louisville. Are the Cards that good? It's really hard to judge a team that's playing, Alcorn St., Texas St., or Wofford. Most of the teams that folks are picking for the playoffs played teams that wear big boy pants on Sat.
This kinda sucks...... http://www.cbssports.com/collegefootball/eye-on-college-football/25292535/new-mexico-states-bus-was-broken-into-during-61-13-loss-at-florida
Well we definitely are Not being talked about being in a playoff game but we did require Bethune Cookman to leave their sippee cups at home...
I understand Don and wish you well. It does appear though that the Gators have something we seem to have lost after Meyer's next to last year at Florida. An OFFENSE!!!!!! 61 points the most points the Gators ever scored in an opening game. Even under Spurrier. I think we have a coach.
Hey Bill It wasn't bad enough that you hung 61 pts. on NM St. they also had their stuff stolen during the game. Not going to win the hosts of the week award. http://espn.go.com/college-football/story/_/id/13597242/new-mexico-state-aggies-bus-target-theft-florida-gators-game
Scott what did you think of the way Sumlin handled Murray and Allen? The local beat writer didn't think much of it, and thought it was only when Murray had a "mysterious" injury and Sumlin turned the game over to Allen that you guys finally got rolling?
First let me say I'm not giddy over the win itself... I'm happy about that no doubt but it was not the true source of my grins. What I am ecstatic about is the aggression of our defense instead of the read and react crap we've done the last 3 years. The boys attacked the ball, and were where they were supposed to be most of the time. Tackling was 1000% improved. Chavis was THE HIRE of the offseason. Sorry Will, you are second fiddle in my book RE: The QB's. I was a little surprised to see Kyler so early, but at that point Allen was struggling with reading the blitz and ball security. Kyler was a nice change of pace that definitely threw the Devil defense off. Murray still has a long way to go with respect to reading D1 defenses, but you can see the potential. He can spin the rock, just needs more time to figure out where to go with it. Our play calling was a bit suspect at times, especially the short yardage situations. Unfortunately... that is nothing new.
I'm not so sure Chavis is the difference. He was famous for the"bend, don't break" defense that sometimes broke at Tennessee. Maybe he has changed... not sure.
 This weeks award for pussy scheduling goes to the California Golden Bears. They hung 73 points on Grambling and they're actually proud of scoring "only" 35 points in the first QUARTER... as if they were holding down the score... http://www.calbears.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=30100&ATCLID=210320987
Finally we will get to watch the Buckeyes this evening in Blacksburg. We have the stage all to ourselves on ESPN, now all we have to do is perform. Question is can the Hokies stop Zeke and force us to win through the air with an unproven group of receivers, Michael Thomas is our only bonified receiver player eligible this evening. How will Braxton Miller perform in his first game in over a year at wide receiver? This is going to be a long day for me waiting for the bell to ring.
Tom, I can't speak to what kind of D Chavis ran at Tenn (although if you look at the stats, he never had worse than a top 30 D) but that sure as hell was no "bend " defense he put out there Saturday night. That was rabid dogs attacking the ball on every play. Of course, it didn't hurt that he actually has some dogs who like to bite.
UCLA DT Eddie Vanderdoes out for the season with torn ACL. Pitt RB James Conner, last year's ACC player of the year, out for the season with a torn MCL.
Definitely looking forward to the Buckeyes/VaTech game. Last years VaTech QB is from the Austin area, played at my nephews HD (Lake Travis) and was a very heady HS QB. College career got off to a injury plagued start and he transferred to Va.Tech. Lots of talk at the time that he would like to have come to Texas but our situation at QB was not good, at the time we had a lot of them on the roster, but they all ended up transferring or getting career ending injuries. It would be nice to have him at UT now, instead of what we have.
I hope this is not a bad omen for this evening: "From the Columbus Dispatch" Two buses carrying the Ohio State University marching band to Blacksburg, Va., for a performance at tonight's game have broken down in West Virginia. An Ohio State spokesman, though, doesn't expect them to miss a beat. A replacement bus was on its way to Charleston, W.Va., to pick up band members that were stranded when two buses broke down there, said Chris Davey, university spokesman. “My guess is they're probably on the bus by now,” he said. Charleston is about three hours from Blacksburg, where the Buckeyes kickoff their national title defense against the Virginia Tech Hokies tonight at 8 p.m. in a rematch from Ohio State's lone loss last season. Davey said the band was expected to arrive on time for its performance, “unless something else were to go wrong.”
