When I read the article, I thought the headline was a little more dramatic and negative than his comments. The way I read them he was talking about the near term (this summer) and that if ND was considered he would probably favor it.

"When Oklahoma and Texas were added to the SEC, we talked about (expansion candidates)," Barta said. "Notre Dame was certainly on that list. I will reiterate we are not seeking applications but as people come to the Big Ten, they're certainly being received and then trying to make the decision.

"I would probably eventually support it. I don't anticipate that being a decision that I'll be making this summer. But I don't know. Again, I can't I don't have a crystal ball. But that question is not before us now."

Barta shared similar sentiments on potentially adding Oregon and Washington. He said his sense was they're moving forward with USC and UCLA and there will not be any more additions this summer.

A recruiting battle has erupted over a QB who is committed to Baylor between 3 teams who don't yet have a QB in their 2023 class. The qb is a 4 star and ranked #13 in the 2023 QB's. He reportedly had a great showing at the elite 11.

The Irish need to get him on campus soon though to have a shot.

Dripping Springs (Texas) High Top247 2023 quarterback Austin Novosad tells 247Sports that Notre Dame is the latest to offer.

Committed to Baylor since December, Novosad has been entertaining opportunities from Ohio State and Texas A&M, and plans to look more into the Irish moving forward.

Scott are you worried at all about only having 5 verbals for 2023? After an historic class in 2022 I figured the momentum from the that would carry over.

Maybe with such a big haul Jimbo is being ultra picky?

    I'm not.
I think the last class was a bit of a double edged sword - Look what we did!, but then how do you outsell your competitors on available playing time with that next class?
Jimbo has has a much smaller pool of scholarships this year, so it was going to be lower rated just from that fact. We'll see where he ends up, but I suspect it'll be a very good class just like he always gets.
I'm WAY more concerned over starting QB. I sure do miss having a returning starter...

Well looks like ND is after someone's QB now. Tweet from Austin Novosad who is a verbal commit to Baylor. From Dripping Springs(Yes, I got it right), Texas.
After a great conversation with coach @Marcus_Freeman1, I am blessed and excited to say I have received an offer from the University of Notre Dame![IMG]@T_Rees11

I see that former Michigan Coach, Gary Moeller has died. In reading his record at UM, he really had a good run in his 5 years. That one bad night in a restaurant and it was all over.

His battles with the Irish were epic, he went 2-2-1 vs Lou Holtz. All very close and exciting games.

    _________________________________________

Gary Moeller, who succeeded Bo Schembechler as Michigan's football coach in 1990 and led the Wolverines to three Big Ten titles in five seasons, died Monday at the age of 81, the university announced.

Moeller had a record of 44-13-3 in five seasons (1990 to 1994) as the Wolverines' head coach and led his teams to a 4-1 record in bowl game appearances. In addition, his teams set a Big Ten record with 19 straight conference wins from 1990 through 1992 and he was a two-time Big Ten Coach of the Year.

Nice post, Terry. Knew a doctor who played at M when Bo was head coach and Moeller was the top assistant coach. He had no fond memories of Bo but loved Moeller describing him as someone who cared for his players and was well liked by those who played for him.

He did a great job as HC modernizing M’s offense and was the DC of M’s greatest defensive team of 1985. RIP.

Most importantly Bob was that he was 3-1-1 vs Ohio State. I liked this John Cooper quote after the 1993 loss to Mo. Media would go nuclear if a coach said that today!

After the game, Cooper said: "This is one of the most embarrassing games I've ever been involved with." "They outplayed us on offense, on defense, and in the kicking game. If you'd told me we would come up here and get beat 28–0, I'd have probably stayed home."[16]

Coop never seemed to get fired up about the Michigan game! Always stood on the sidelines biting his nails!

Over the years, I've posted a number of articles highlighting the vacuous "leadership" provided to the P12 by Larry Scott, whose disastrous reign ended last year. The media rights expiration schedule was actually touted by Larry Scott as a genius vision for the conference future.

Part of his "vision" was to align the media rights of all conference teams into a single package on the P12 Networks, which was unique to all the nation's athletic conferences. To do this, the individual contracts were going to be allowed to run their course, then acquired by the Network as their terms ended, the last of which would be acquired after 2023. The promise, 10 (?) years ago, was additional leverage beginning in 2024 that ALL tiers of the conference team's rights would be controlled by the conference. His argument was that the conference would sacrifice for 10 years, while rights / inventory was accumulated, but then on renewal, be paid back with dividends due to the huge amount of content the Conference would then control.

The decline that occurred over that 10 years from increasingly getting lapped in the revenue race, however, ended up making the P12 a second-class citizen, and no amount of negotiating from weakness would have been able to recover. The final nail in the coffin, then, was provided unintentionally by Larry Scott, aligning the media rights expiration with the B10 renegotiation schedule. The crown jewels became easy plucks for the neighbor's gold-pile-sitting royalty. Former rivals became rulers over the course of Larry's 10 year plan.

Thank goodness free agency and monetized recruiting has desensitized me over the last few years. If this had happened four years ago, I probably would have had a quadruple aneurism.

On ESPNU today there was a guest who claimed that UCLA and USC approached the Big 10 independely. Neither knowing the other was hoping to jump and get a needed cash infusion.

Media Days started, no doubt expansion, NIL and the Portal will be the topics that get the most attention.

I saw this earlier this morning on the 11 Warriors site. Some interesting tidbits that might be of interest.

As pleased as I am to see ND ranked high, I question, 1) the parameters used to determine the rankings, and 2) where ESPN obtains the information. To have Alabama ranked that low and Michigan ranked that high (Sorry, Bobda) doesn't make sense to me. I have to wonder what ESPN's self-serving motive might be.

How can Oklahoma have a higher viewership ranking than ND?

I second George's question and I'll raise him.
They say OU has the HIGHEST viewership in the nation?
I call BS on that whole table after seeing that...
