Successfully coaching at D1 level takes a lot of energy. Long hours and 7 days a week schedule, plus recruiting. It sounds like a big ask for a man recovering from cancer treatment and bladder surgery.

My brother who passed away, didn't have his bladder removed, but his was non-functioning and he had a port with a bag attached for urine disposal. I also played golf with a guy who did have his bladder removed and he had the same thing. Not great but workable.

True, but was either a D1 football coach? Maybe he can do it. He was a remarkable athlete but it seems to wear out healthy men.

I tend to agree, but I can aso see why he wants to give it a go.

The Athletic analyzed the top 50 players at every position in the 2021 class. In total, 60.3 percent (362 of 600) of players examined transferred at least once. Of that group, a third (33.4 percent) transferred multiple times.

I thought it would be high, but wasn’t expecting 60%.

84%/42 of 50 QBs and 82% of WRs transferred. A third of QBs transferred multiple times. On the other end of the spectrum, players defined as edge rushers were lowest at 30%

If that trend continues, we have to assess recruiting classes and the need/ability to dip into the portal differently. It will be interesting to see if the new revenue sharing rules makes any difference.

Been a lot of non-traditional AD hires recently. Stanford is another one, I wonder how this impacts Andrew Luck as the director of football? Will he report to the new guy, and will the new guy hire the "permanent" HC after this season with the "interim" HC Frank Reich.

Stanford has hired former Nike CEO John Donahoe as the school's new athletic director, the university announced Thursday.

Donahoe, 65, will arrive in the collegiate athletic director space with a vast swath of business experience, as Stanford officials viewed him as a "unicorn candidate" because of both his business ties and history at the school. Stanford coveted a nontraditional candidate for the role, and Donahoe's hire delivers a seasoned CEO with stints at Nike, Bain & Company and eBay. He also served as the board chair of PayPal.

He also brings strong Stanford ties as a 1986 MBA graduate. He has had two stints on the Stanford business school's advisory board, including currently serving in that role.
