1st day in the books....early observations: FR WR Jeremiah Smith is a freak by all accounts. QB Devin Brown lined up behind center with the 1's to begin camp. OL still a work in progress. Mother nature is growing Sonny Styles into a LB from his safety spot last, but that's OK given Caleb Downs will be manning his safety spot at an elite level. Nothing but praise for him. No surprises on the DL yet, everybody but one coming back. No pads yet, so just funsies at this point
Is Will Howard not enrolled for the Spring? Riley Leonard the Duke transfer is in South Bend but not enrolled, he's completing his Duke degree with online courses. He can't participate in team activities or Spring Drills.
Most see Howard as the odds on favorite to win the job coming out of spring but it was Devin Brown that lined up initially with the first team offense. Maybe it was Day/Kelly sending a message that everyone needs to compete, there are no guaranteed spots (sorry Kyle), etc and all the top 3 will get reps with the ones, but it was Brown lined up with the ones to start. Jeebzus, still can't get over it, what was McCord thinking....?
Good question BuckeyeT. Unfortunately Brown has not had enough reps to really see what he can do for the Buckeyes. Too many injury problems slowed him down considerably.
I see where we have signed another Aussie punter, 6'7' 255 pounds for this years team. Unusual size for a punter.
So many of these Aussie kickers are mid 20's, I think one of them might have been late 20's, forget who he played for though. I think there is a 'kicking academy' down there that trains these guys in their transition from Aussie Football to American kicking. I think they are all punters, I don't remember any Aussie place kickers not sure why though it would seem like a natural for them
Just picked up some more info Terry, He actually graduated from high school two years ago, making him 20 years old. So you were correct in his assessment. Makes him more mature and that is a plus on my book. Apparently he lost his interest in Aussie football and their farm system.
More current information on McLarty, the Aussie punter this morning in the Columbus Dispatch. He will be on Scholarship for 2024-25 season but will not enroll until this summer. He will be the third punter on the roster. Should be some very interesting competition for the job this fall.
No, one the roster from last year and another walk on. Our backup transferred in the portal. A strange se of circumstances for sure.
Harsh: Tony Alford’s Michigan exit hurts because he was the last coach fans expected to betray the Buckeyes — Jimmy Watkins But TreVeyon still loves. him; Ohio State’s star running back has departing message for coach who joined Michigan
Who quits on the team with the backs in that room who committed to coming back, while in the middle of spring camp and bolts to your arch-rival? It was an F'U to Day and clearly personal, imho. Tony Who????
