Looks like the Buckeyes got it together in the 3rd qtr, will be a big win at the end. Doubt if IU scores again, OSU will get to 50
Not quite Terry, 49-21. Buckeyes looked much better in the second half. Dobbins, our freshman running back looks like a winner. Set new rushing record for a freshman as a starter (178 yards), which had belonged to Maurice Clarett.
didn't understand Meyer going for it on 4th down to get the late TD to make it 49 instead of kicking the FG, but whatever, there's a reason why I enjoy seeing him lose.
Texas fans were upset when Dobbins got away from the Longhorns. Truthfully though I don't think he ever gave us a shot, just wanted to go to Ohio State. He does look very goood. It was pretty clear that Ohio State was the better team, it just took them awhile to get going. The IU QB made some unbelievable throws for awhile and they look like they will be a good team. But he got away with some bad decisions as well. In the end the Ohio State defense finally got it sorted out and shut him down. How about Oklahoma State, granted it was Tulsa and not a big time program but they looked awesome from start to finish. Mason Rudolph really looks like the real deal.
Meyer understands that college football is a beauty contest. The bigger the win, the bigger the impact.
Maybe he should have just taken an knee and not scored at all, Corey. Surprised you're so empathetic about the poor Hoosier's feelings...must be all about Meyer.
I just finished reading this article on ESPN: http://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/20523324/alabama-crimson-tide-bear-bryant-legacy-lives-nick-saban Kp do you have any comments? It seems to me that the age factor seems to control how people feel. Older fans probably will remain with the Bear, younger fans Saban. Recent surveys involving the Buckeyes between Woody and Urban are very similar.
Don, Corey and I wrote about this a while back and it probably is an "age" thing. Saban is a great coach and the success Alabama has had during his 10 year tenure is phenomenal BUT, he is not one of us. Also Coach Bryant won at Alabama for over 20 years. The game changed several times and he adapted to each change. Saban has a few more years to go. Finally, Coach Bryant was one of us. Even though he wasn't born in Alabama, he was southerner, an Alabama player and embodied what we considered Alabama football. Saban will never be one of us. He is a great coach but there will never be another Bear Bryant. At least that's the opinion of this old man. 8)
Kp, I had not given any consideration to the "one of us" but that does make sense to me. Always appreciate your thoughtful comments.
What KP said, word for word. It's a local thing, most folks just aren't gonna understand it and they don't care here locally. It's not really good or bad, it just is.
Well a lot of good games yesterday. FSU/Bama..that was a great game. FSU cratered in the end with all the special teams errors and turnovers. Francois is going to be one bruised kid this morning. His OL didn't do him any favors. Alabama looked like Alabama. I'm sure Saban will find coaching points but they did what they usually do ..win. Liberty beat Baylor..oh my not a good start by Matt Rhule, I never quite understood why he felt he needed to take that job. Of course it's only 1 game, but Liberty? USC/WMU ..yikes USC was a dark horse for the Nat'l Championship. Almost lost at home to WMU. There was one good thing, they have a blind kid who is a walkon and plays center, they let him snap for an extra point. Perfect snap and kick was made. Good for him.
A lot of opening day stumbles yesterday, but most recovered to win easily (sorry Terry). Some wins came with a lot of questions. Alabama's offense must get better. Hurts is still not able to go through a progression to find 2nd or 3rd receivers. If #1 is not open, he pulls it down and runs. He doesn't scramble and continue to look downfield, he turns into a running back and runs. Right now we have about a half of a passing game and a half of a running game, and a running qb. If our defense did not get us the ball deep in FSU territory several times this would have been a different game.
I see that Amazon and Michigan have teamed up to produce a series on the Michigan 2017 season. It will be shown in Jan. The ones on ND and FSU that Showtime had were shown during football season, week to week showing the previous week and the game. As a ND fan I liked ours, but I doubt if many who weren't ND fans watched it, same for FSU which I didn't watch ...because I'm not a FSU fan. http://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/20686482/michigan-wolverines-partnering-amazon-2017-football-season-series
They are doing that same series this year. It's on Showtime and it's about the Navy program. I started watching it this week and it's pretty good. It's interesting to see the life of a Midshipman.
