Don't have a lot of sympathy for FSU. Years ago they turned down going into the SEC and went to an easier conference. I don't believe that if they played in the SEC or Big 10 they would be undefeated and also believe Georgia is better. According to CBS Sportsline Georgia is a 14 point favorite. Come next year we will have 12 teams so under the same scenario would be in the playoffs.
Well we might have a first. I don't believe that in the CFP era we have ever had a player opt out of playing in a CFP game Till now, Texas QB Malik Murphy has entered the Portal and will not play again for the Longhorns. There have been rumors that Quinn Ewers has decided to return to Texas next year. There was no way Murphy who has a lot of talent and was a 5* QB himself was going to sit another year behind Ewers. So while Ewers has not made an, official announcement this certainly indicates that it will happen.
Alabama has had a couple of players enter the portal in the last couple of weeks. Neither has had much playing time and I don’t know whether they are opting out of playing in the playoffs.
I see that Jalen Milroe has announced that he will return for 2024. I was surprised since I thought last year he was a freshman and this year he was a Soph and had to return for 2024 before he could go to the NFL. Yet the article said he was graduating in Dec. It does make a lot of sense for him to return though to develop more and he certainly will have his shot at winning the Heisman next season.
He’s a redshirt sophomore so this is his third year in school and he graduates in a couple of days. I think it is a good move to return for another year. He has a lot of things to work on if he wants to move onto the pros and it is no longer a financial burden to stay in school.
Apparently, the state of Florida is filing an anti-trust investigation into the “snub” of FSU. I think I would be pissed if I was a UCF fan!
I know all of you don't like Kirk Herbstreit (I do) but FYI here is his take on things. He doesn't exactly hold back; Kirk Herbstreit fires back at Florida State fans upset about CFP snub
Stu, I have always like Kirk and he was treated very shabbily by locals forcing him to move away from Columbus. Article in question speaks for itself and I agree with him.
I agree with him too....I think there is some argument to be made that maybe before the QB went down they were among the 4, after he got hurt no chance. I think Bama wins 8 outta 10 if they went head to head
I have always liked Kirk. I don’t always agree with him but I respect his opinion. Now Pat Mcafee is another matter.
I like Kirk as well, didn't know he was 'forced' to leave Columbus though. His youngest is a QB at St. X in Cincy, a Jr. He's the starter. I agree with his take on the FSU. I have always been against the conference champions getting a bye, and for the "best" teams getting the nod.
Terry, Kirk has always been driven and professional in his career. Many Ohio State fans thought he should always put Ohio State first in everything, simply because his dad and he played for the Buckeyes. His family was frequently under attack and could not venture out in public. The family simply decided to move to have some privacy and not be under fire all of the time.
I had been neutral until I learned he has Golden Retrievers, and his traveling companion is named Ben, the name of one of my grandsons. Now I really like him. I also agree with his assessment in the article linked by Stu. Originally, I was part of the "FSU got screwed" crowd, but I've changed my mind. Herbstreit is a credible source IMO. I believe he doesn't have an agenda. I trust his judgement
Looking back at my post I kind of worded it wrong....I was trying to say that I thought "I know not all of you like KH"...but it came out "I know all of you don't like KH". Anyhow he's one of the guys that I'm always interested in what he has to say.
Stu, FWIW, I understood what you meant by what you posted, but it's a good thing that it made us all think (at least it did for me), How do I feel about KH? Isn't that one of the aims of this forum, to initate civilized conversation on topics of interest? KH is a widely visible player in college football commentary. I wouldn't have known that most Skyboxers like him and that the OSU allegedly had issues with him if you hadn't posted what you did.
