Gene Smith OSU AD, has come out and says he is in favor of an eight team playoff in college football. He seems to think that may be possible next season. That would be a quick turn around for sure.
Everyone on the Alabama team knows Sark so I doubt it will make.many waves and sooner or later one of.Sabans former assistants is going to beat him so if Jumbo does it this year he will be a legend. We don't play Texas so it.has no bulliten board value.
I have no problem with coaches trash talking at alumni events. That's what they do - fire up their fans to maximize support. Saying things like that in any other setting is a totally different animal.
A.J. What are your thoughts about the early kickoff by Fox Sports for the Nebraska Oklahoma game on the 18th of September? (11:00 A.M.)
Oklahoma is pissed and tried everything they could to get a later time slot. Irish fans aren't esp happy with the noon kick for the ND/Wisc game at Soldier Field either.
Just finished an article on CBS sports and their rating of the top fifteen games to watch this coming season. Notre Dame is listed in five games of the fifteen games. The first game will be at home against Cincinnati. That gives the Irish some great exposure for the upcoming season!
I like it. My west coast friends will most likely still be in bed and miss most/all of the blowout loss.
Best Non-Conference Games... Clemson v Georgia should be a doozy to open the season. Not sure why Notre Dame v FSU should be on this list though. FSU is a complete unknown, they weren't very good last year and it's not like you can say that they are a team on the rise, although who knows maybe they are, Mike Norvell is a good coach and maybe he's got them going in the right direction. Maybe Mackenzie Milton the transfer from UCF is back to the QB he was before the injury. Louisiana at Texas? Not saying it won't be a good game, certainly Sun Belt teams have a history of some big upsets. But face it this was a buy game for the Longhorns. If they lose of course this will be a huge black mark to start the season for Steve Sarkesian. 86. Clemson vs. Georgia -- Charlotte -- Sept. 4 87. Alabama vs. Miami -- Atlanta -- Sept. 4 88. LSU at UCLA -- Sept. 4 89. Louisiana at Texas -- Sept. 4 90. Notre Dame at Florida State -- Sept. 5 91. Ole Miss vs. Louisville --Atlanta -- Sept. 6 92. Oregon at Ohio State -- Sept. 11 93. Iowa at Iowa State -- Sept. 11 94. Washington at Michigan -- Sept. 11 95. Utah at BYU -- Sept. 11 96. Auburn at Penn State -- Sept. 18 97. Nebraska at Oklahoma -- Sept. 18 98. Wisconsin vs. Notre Dame -- Chicago -- Sept. 25 99. Cincinnati at Notre Dame -- Oct. 2 100. North Carolina at Notre Dame -- Oct. 30
The ND v FSU game is the best one that day. Of course it's the only one that day. It's a Sun. and there are not NFL games on. Let's say it wins by default.
The Athletic has a very good (and long) article up on the recruitment of Arch Manning. He may end up being the most sought after HS QB ever, it's not just hype though as he's really good. I remember reading about Trevor Lawrence and Justin Fields back when they were in HS and big things were predicted from them. Justin Fields numbers at the Opening were something, the athleticism was off the charts. But the Manning name trumps all of that. Arch besides of course being really good is a Manning. Anything less than an All American college career will be a disappointment, not necessarily to his family but to those who follow college football. Assumption is that he'll stay in the SEC or maybe Clemson. He's going to visit ND, Ohio State and Stanford as well. If things were different at Stanford, like back in the day when Andrew Luck was the QB and even after that when Harbaugh left but they continued to be a top football program. They have fallen off a bit lately, but I would assume that might have been a attractive option. Great Academics, solid program, Palo Alto, California and the west coast would be attractive. Hard to imagine that ND has a shot, not that the Mannings have anything against ND I don't know what their religion is but doubtful that is a consideration. Just that it's been a while since ND has developed a really top/elite QB.
Ballot was released for the Class of 2022 College Football HOF. As always it's a long list of great players all of which are deserving. The new additions usually get the publicity, this year it's Andrew Luck and Reggie Bush as the headliners. 2021 College Football Hall of Fame Ballot Released - National Football Foundation
Top 10 College Football coaches. I am not sure Kirby Smart should be that high but he sure is a lights out recruiter. Ranking college football's top 25 coaches in 2021
After the top 3 right now it's just a crap shoot and changes year to year. I would say that if the Buckeyes have another CFP playoff run that Ryan Day should be in the top 4.
The problem with those lists is they don't compare apples to apples. Some of these guys were dropped into pretty sweet situations, while others had to build from the ground up. No argument Saban is the top of the mountain, and I'd have to agree that Dabo is right behind him. Everyone else is at a lower level. If Jimbo continues on the current trajectory, he'd be in that group too. We'll see on Ryan Day. He inherited a well oiled machine, but he certainly hasn't hurt himself. Like Jimbo, if he keeps on as he's been doing, he'll be on the short list. Kirby is a little less sure to me. He's recruited almost as well, if not as well as Saban, but can't get over the hump. Hmmm, seems a lot like the previous coach. I have a hard time thinking of Lincoln Riley as the 3rd best coach in the country. He inherited a pretty good deal with some weak scheduling... he's lost every time he got close to the big table. Then you have guys like Matt Campbell and Pat Fitzgerald. They have built nice programs with decided disadvantages. How would the higher ranked fellas do in those shoes?
SEC has changed it's rules on intra-conference transfers. Pretty sure all of college football is going to go this way. The Southeastern Conference voted on Thursday to allow players who transfer within the conference to have immediate eligibility. Previously, intraconference transfers were required to sit out a year of competition. "This is an important measure to further support student-athletes throughout the Southeastern Conference," SEC commissioner Greg Sankey said in a statement. "While maintaining the expectation that coaches and others avoid improper recruiting, this change will ensure that student-athletes who enroll at an SEC member institution will enjoy the flexibility afforded to other student-athletes across the nation."
Longhorns pickup a RB off the waiver wire in Alabama RB Keilan Robinson. He'd opted out of the 2020 season for Covid reasons. He was a top 300 player coming out of HS and a 4 star.
Multiple sources are now indicating that a 12 team playoff is being favored opposed to an 8 game field. Regardless the plan will not be in force until the 2023/24 season.
