Not really a surprise. It was an economic necessity for them to get back to full capacity. If the PAC doesn't follow suit they will fall further behind...

It's being reported that Matt Campbell of Iowa State was offered an 8 year 88M contract to coach the Detroit Lions after last season. No doubt Matt has done an excellent job at Iowa State, but I'm surprised the NFL (well the Lions) were willing to pony up that much money for him. But then the Panthers put out a lot of money for Matt Rhule based on his Baylor tenure.

Iowa State should have a very good team this season again with almost all of their starters back including Brock Purdy at QB. They probably won't win the Big 12 though as OU has a lot coming back as well.

We are all used to the recruiting rankings of players, stars, etc. Arch Manning 5 star #1 rated player in his HS class. Top 100, ESPN Top 300, etc.

I didn't know that somebody was ranking players in the Portal, makes sense I guess. Man did Tenn lose a lot of players!

Here's the Top 100 in the Portal!

Clemson looks like they've lost some good players. Is that because there are better ones in front of them or some other reason?

I would figure if you are highly recruited and there are 2 highly recruited players ahead of you on the depth chart you have decide, transfer or compete.

Yeah I wonder what Mac Jones thought when he was behind Jaylen Hurts and Tua Tagavolua?

Money was doled out this week, with the Big 10 teams getting the biggest paychecks, followed by the SEC teams.

Also Neb and Northwestern announced they will open the season in Dublin Ireland.

By the 2019 season Hurts was gone to OU and he was Tua's backup and I'm sure he knew that Tua was not going to return for the 2020 seaon and of course as we all know Tua didn't finish the 2019 season due to that horrific injury and Mac finished the season as the starter. So he was in a good position for the 2020 season, even though the media kept speculating that Bryce Young was so good he might start as a true freshman.

I guess the better question is what is Paul Tyson thinking?

Terry, in 2017 Tua and Mac were both freshmen on the 2017 Alabama roster. Mac was redshirted, Tua of course was not. Hurts was a sophomore. So Mac waited for 3 years not knowing if he was ever going to play. Tyson however, was a freshman with Taulia Tagavolua. Those 2 are who I think Mac really had to feel might keep him off of the field.

Looks like the man who created Michigan football and the big house in his 40 years of service to the university might be canceled. Certainly Yost was flawed but his world was a far different one than ours. I doubt if the uni historians calling for the renaming of Yost area will accomplish 1/1000th of what Yost did for Michigan.

UM panel recommends name change for Yost Ice Arena

Bobda as you know Fielding Yost is fairly reviled in the Notre Dame community. But I would agree that it's just not fair to apply today's standards of Wokeness to historical figures. So many of our hero's from 100 or 200 years ago held views that were common at the time but would not pass the cancel culture test today. I keep waiting for the call to tear down the Washington and Jefferson monuments.

BTW I never did understand naming the Ice Arena after the football coach.

Terry, Yost Ice Arena is a structure that dates back to the 1930s. It is the old field house where M used to play basketball and hold track and fields events and was then called Yost Fieldhouse or Yost Arena. When Crisler Arena was built in the late 60s for basketball after the Cazzie Russel era. the old field-house was repurposed solely for hockey and modernized.

Also, Yost, as AD, was involved in establishing the hockey program in the ‘20s and saw to it that they had an enclosed facility with refrigeration for the ice prior to the depression which wiped out half of college hockey.

Without Yost’s efforts, the accomplishments of the school in university sports would probably be similar to the University of Chicago’s as I suspect those in charge would have joined Chicago’s and the Ivys’ efforts after WW2 to decouple sports from the university but were prevented from doing so by the great historical success of M’s athletic teams and alumni pride in those programs. That success was Yost’s handiwork.

I am certain the student lounge named after Angela Davis is bulletproof from being renamed.
