This could.work but I'm not sure we need to revamp all of College football because a temporary situation. It's funny how SI can lace.so much criticism into.a.supposed solution.
Arizona has announced it's pausing bringing back it's athletes to campus for ive and I'm not sure all the players are back on campus. I think they might be, I don't think the other fall sports are back at this time, but I'm not sure. Texas is continuing with the voluntary workouts and issued a preliminary plan for the fall. It's too much to post here though. Notre Dame also continuing with voluntary workouts, and released a plan for the fall semester. Both have elements of online learning, reduced size of classes, masks, daily symptom checking (by an app).
The Elite 11 QB camp is going on right now. Not many other camps are going to be held though. I wonder if the Manning Passing Academy will be held. There is a kid from St.Thomas HS here in Houston, Kopp Maddox, who doesn't really even have many offers. We have a couple of really highly ranked QB's in the Houston area but I'd never heard of this kid. They did a story on him in the Houston Chronicle and since he got selected for the Elite 11 he's starting to get some attention from other schools. But his offers before the Elite 11 were 2 Central Michigan and Houston, since then Tulane and Texas State have offered. Not exactly what you'd think you'd see from a QB who is in the Elite 11. St. Thomas QB Maddox Kopp's star is beginning to rise
Has anybody had more negative publicity from former players than Iowa? Newest is from former RB Akrum Wadley who played from 2014-2017, who wrote playing for Iowa Football was a living nightmare." Has to have impacted recruiting at Iowa. Ivy League is considering 2 options. Football in the fall starting late Sept and only conference games or Football in the Spring with a 7 game conference only schedule. I don't believe that Spring Football is a legitimate option though for big time Power 5 conferences.
Joke's on me, with all the negative publicity that Iowa has had, they rank ahead of the Irish in the 247 composite recruiting rankings for 2021 at #14 and the Irish at #15. We've not had any bad publicity, we haven't had any players come out and claim playing at ND was pure hell and yet Iowa is doing better. Go figure.
Mack Brown just got a verbal from the #1 CB in the 2021 class and UNC is now #3 in recruiting. That guy can sure recruit.
Well not good news for Texas A&M. The NCAA put them on probation for 1 year and gave Jimbo Fisher a 6 month show cause penalty. They fined them 5K, really? Another coach was given a show cause as well but not named. The ESPN article doesn't mention what the 1 year probation is from, bowl games, TV, what? NCAA penalizes Texas A&M football for violations
Better article on the NCAA site. Texas A&M football program violated NCAA rules One years of probation. A fine of $5,000. A reduction in football official visits by 17 days during the 2019-20 academic year. An off-campus recruiting ban for the entire football coaching staff for November 2019, which reduced the permissible evaluation days for the 2019-20 academic year by 19. A seven-day off-campus recruiting ban for the football coaching staff for the 2020 spring off-campus recruiting period and a 10-day off-campus recruiting ban for the football coaching staff for the 2020 fall off-campus recruiting period. The university ended its recruitment of the prospect. A ban on recruiting any prospects from the prospect's high school for the 2019-20, 2020-21 and 2021-222 academic years. A six-month show-cause order for the head coach. The terms of the show-cause order include a previously served nine-day ban on phone calls, emails or texts with prospects in January 2020; a reduction in off-campus recruiting contact days by three for the December 2019 through January 2020 contact period; a ban on all off-campus recruiting activities for the fall 2020 contact period; additional one-on-one rules education; and a public statement from the head coach addressing the violations.
When Jim Tressel was given a 5 year (I think) show cause penalty by the NCAA it pretty much made him unhirable by any NCAA school. So I guess nobody can hire Jimbo for the next 6 months?
LOL... I wondered how long it would take Terry to put this up. Not sure exactly what happened... it was kept totally under wraps until today. Sounds like a dumb mistake. Oh well. Take the medicine and move on. Heck I'm not even sure I care. With all the BS coming from some of our players about the Ross statue... I may just step away for a while.
Hmmm... I got a little info on this NCAA thing. Interesting Factoid: The NCAA executive VP of regulatory affairs is Stan Wilcox. He provides 'strategic direction to enforcement'. Wilcox also happens to have been Florida State's AD when Jimbo Fisher left Tallahassee for A&M. All of this stuff goes back to the allegations thrown at A&M by Santino Marchiol when he was desperately trying to find a way to be immediately eligible at his new school after transferring. After all the mud he slung, all they found was that A&M had players stretching for an extra 12 minutes a day, and Jimbo ran into and talked with a kid in his head coach's office during non recruiting time. That is usually excused by the NCAA... but not when the guy who directs enforcement is still butt-hurt. Eh... whatever. We'll survive.
Scott, no surprise. The NCAA does not have to even pretend to be fair. No one believes it until it happens to them.
Yeah, I'm "Meh" about it. Technically, rules were broken. We'll serve the punishment and go on. Just thought the "who" in this case was an eyebrow raiser... Guess he never thought of recusing himself?
Yeah, they did decide to take it easy on you. I guess it could have been worse, of course it could have been less too. It's just depends on which agenda they want to pursue.
Interesting article in SI suggest several B10 teams may skip the season and the possibility of a ND/M game due to their proximity to one another.
