Interesting reads. I haven't read about the supposed ACC deal with the three teams but limited sports is really strange. College football has taken a turn that I don't understand with all the legal money to players, conferences collapsing etc. But college football starts Sat with Notre Dame and Navy. But of course the big game is Thursday with Utah and Florida.
Bill did you watch the documentary about Florida football in the Urban Meyer years? It didn't get very good reviews on ESPNU.
I don't get Netflix so no I haven't watched it. But I have read about it but don't really have any comment except to say that I am glad Meyer is no longer at Florida.
Thanks Don. And I really mean to be here more but think age has caught up with me a bit. Closer to 90 than to 80 these days.
I don't want to post my email on a public forum but Terry should have it and I souled't mind someone getting it and emailing me to chastise me for not being here.
I am not sure if this site is open public or not but let me know if you can access it. Former Gator Brandon Spikes making early impact as student assistant | GatorCountry.com
I watched the documentary on Netflix last night. I have to say I don’t really like Urban Meyer but this was eye opening for me. It definitely puts him in a different light for me and not a good one.
I haven't been able to see it and don't know if I will. However I agree with you about Meyer. Not sure what the Ohio State people think about him at this point but you know my feeling.
I'm not sure I'm gonna watch it, still haven't decided prob not if it's pretty much a hatchet job. I'm not sure that it's going to add alot of new revelations nor change my basic view of him, tons of flaws, tons of bad decisions, tons of baggage but on the short list of most successful coaches in the history of the college game. I'm with Bill, I wouldn't trade him for the guy we got but I still find him to be one of the most insightful guys on TV
So I get it that there is no love lost for Texas in the Big 12, but that's always been the way back to when we were in the SWC. Beating Texas (and OU) was for the most part every teams goal. But I've never heard a conference commissioner make a statement like this. Texas coach Steve Sarkisian said earlier this month that his message to his team this year was "embrace the hate." He might not have expected it to come from the Big 12 commissioner, however. When league boss Brett Yormark spoke at Texas Tech's Red Raider Club kickoff luncheon Wednesday, he delivered a message to coach Joey McGuire about his expectations for Tech's game against the Longhorns in their final regular-season game in the conference before leaving for the SEC. "Coach [McGuire], I'm not going to put any pressure on you, but I'm gonna be in Austin for Thanksgiving, OK? And you'd better take care of business like you did right here in Lubbock last year," Yormark said to cheers from the audience.
Holy smokes, the Aggies open the 23 season as 38pt favorites over New Mexico? I guess the odds-makers believe Petrino will be 100% in charge of the offense!
So who is the starter at QB? I thought it would be Wegmans job to lose but an article last week seemed to imply that was not the case.
I think that is the case, but Max is a good QB too, so... With that said, Jimbo has a history of letting the QB1 stay dark far longer than necessary. I think they are practicing knowing who the starter is, but just haven't made it public. Pretty sure it'll be Weigman.
It had to happen. A Florida player signed a deal for $400k in return for 15% of his future NFL salary for the next 25 years. These kids are not ready for this.
Shame on that company for taking advantage of the kid and shame on the kid and his agent/parent/uncle or whoever is his advisor for letting it happen.
