Friggen Gophers mauled us today in Minnesota for our 1st loss. Even without fans, B10 road games are still a beast.
Baylors Kim Mulkey, accuses the NCAA of only caring about money with regards to the basketball season. I'm not sure if she is saying that the season should be discontinued or what. Certainly it has been challenging to play, almost all teams have had to postpone or cancel games due to the virus. Several women's teams have shut down their programs. I am pretty sure that, like football, that the players want to play. No doubt though losing the final four again will be a big financial loss for everyone. "The NCAA has to have the almighty dollar from the men's tournament. The almighty dollar is more important than the health and welfare of me, the players or anybody else. "
She's right but that doesn't mean the NCAA is wrong. She's avoiding the point that it's up to each individual program to determine what it does to preserve the health and safety of its people. The NCAA is taking extraordinary measures to make sure the tournament is safe and to avoid a financial disaster caused by missing the second straight year. I don't have a problem with that.
Just looking at the Big 10. Iowa and Mich both have 1 loss... both of them are to. 500 Minnesota team. Iowa and Mich only ply 1 time late in the season.
On the women's side there is a rash of HS girls who are enrolling early and playing for their team. Most are high profile/McDonald AA types. This 1/2 year doesn't count against their 4 years of eligibility. I think some are from area's where they can't play their regular HS season. The Irish have one coming this week and yesterday one of the BC girls was graduated from he HS in Mich in Dec and then enrolled early and was playing, and playing quite well. I have seen that UConn and UCLA both have had early enrollee who play right away as well. In the past this wouldn't have happened because playing the Spring semester would have counted as a full year.
Duke fell out of the AP top 25...that's how crazy the year has been. Duke has several NBA lottery picks in it's lineup, just like Kentucky who is also not in the top 25.
Buckeyes up to #15 in latest AP poll. We are actually playing better on the court without C.J. Walker our point guard. A couple of tough games on the horizon. It will be interesting to see what transpires.
I'll go them one further. When was the last time Notre Dame, Kentucky, Duke and North Carolina were all unranked in the AP Poll? Dec 18th 1961.
Another Women's program has closed down for the season. Vanderbilt announced it was discontinuing the season due to Covid issues.
Talk about lossing the Golden Goose, and a lost opportunity, you might have witnessed the affair this evening. After the Buckeyes leading most of the way, we pretty much blew the game with some poor shooting and turnovers late in the second half.. Credit to Purdue for their patience and winning the game in the final minutes with some clutch shooting winning 67-65. Congratulations Stu and Sid!
Thanks, Don...Didn't get to see it. I'm in Florida and don't get B1G network. Only shot is to watch it streaming on computer through Fox Sports web site but they don't cover every game; it was probably on but I can't record it on the computer (or don't know how) and we were out to dinner. Now I can start rooting for our Bucks again! Boilers have now won 4 straight...and 3 were on the road...not an easy task in the B1G.
Don, I didn't see the game. Was with family. I'm not surprised it was close. Both teams are up and coming. Purdue is a young team with lots of talent. OSU will win be fine in the long run because they have a good coach.
The Purdue kid who hit that late 3 to get the win is Jaden Ivey, son of the Notre Dame Women's basketball coach Niele Ivey. His father is Javin Hunter who played WR for the Irish. His dad was quite the outstanding multisport athlete in HS. Niele Ivey of course was a PG on the 2001 Notre Dame Women's Nat'l Championship team.
