Wow... I was just talking today with a friend at work about how a 16 would never beat a 1. TADA!
    The University of Maryland at Baltimore Friggen County. Are you kidding me...
Wow what the hell happened to UVA, i know they lost a good player, but UMBC? Probably doesn't have a man who would even make the 12 spot on the UVA bench. Shocking to say the least. My elite 8 was UVA vs AZ!
If you thought UMBC kicked Virginia's ass, you should have been reading their twitter feed. They broke the internet tonight.
No team this season had scored more than 70 points against Virginia until tonight. Two months ago, Albany beat UMBC 83-39.
No bigger upset in sports history has ever occurred in my opinion. Huge disparity in talent and accomplishments by the two teams. AppState over UM was very big but they were actually a good team coming off a lower level national championship with a great elusive Qb and it was Michigan's first game..... not the NCAA playoffs. Just incredible.
yep, I commented on the other thread, UMBC was shooting lights out but they were also playing good defense. UVA never seemed to step up their tempo and coasted to the loss. One of the all time greatest truisms of sports just went down the tubes.
Looks like we have another Cinderella, as Loyola of Chicago downed #3 seeded Tenn in a very close game. Here's a good story about a Nun who is the biggest fan of Loyola of Chicago ..Meet Sister Jean. http://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_/id/22802029/meet-sister-jean-loyola-chicago-ramblers-not-secret-weapon-ncaa-tournament
Ohio State loses to Gonzaga for the second time this season 90-84 and end their play in the NCAA Tournament. We managed to dig a deep hole in the first few minutes, fight back in the second half, gained the lead and lose in the final six minutes. The team exceeded all expectations this season and I do not think the fans can be too critical of their performance. We are back on track with Cris Holtmann and I feel like we are in good hands for the future.
Michigan breaks a lot of hearts here in Houston with that last second shot! But I think the Cougars are back, Kelvin Sampson can coach question is can he follow the rules. The ones he couldn't aren't rules anymore so maybe that'll help. I hope he doesn't get big eyes for a Power 5 conference job!
I had already resigned myself to the fact that we were going to lose that game before that heart stopping finish. I was surprised that Sampson did not put a player on our man passing the ball under the basket to make the inbound pass more difficult. Maybe the strategy is correct as Poole did have a guy all over him when he hit the 3pt. bomb from 30 feet.
I'm glad Houston lost. I have nothing against the program other than the fact that they are coached by a dishonest weasel who never should have been allowed to coach again after what he did to Indiana's program.
For those who believe Moe Wagner is a total jerk: https://mobile.twitter.com/JeffreyParson/status/975228138266521602/video/1
Bobda, I didn't see the game. Would you mind putting his obviously sportsmanlike gesture in perspective? Thanks.
3.4 seconds were left in the game. Houston was up 63-61 with Houston on the line for 2 free throws to wrap the game up. The player on the line missed both. Michigan inbounded the ball and the M player who caught the inbound pass at midcourt then passed the ball to Poole who was about 30 feet from the basket. Poole swished the buzzer beater and Michigan players ran out on the court to celebrate the miraculous win. That is the moment when this video was taken. The player who missed the 2 free throws was a graduating senior. Here is a photo of him practicing free throws 45 minutes after the game had ended: https://mobile.twitter.com/MattGKSNT/status/975235353480257536/photo/1?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fthebiglead.com%2F2018%2F03%2F18%2Fhoustons-devin-davis-who-missed-two-free-throws-with-4-seconds-left-shot-free-throws-by-himself-after-the-game%2F Jubilation and heartbreak sometimes walk hand in hand at a certain moment It was nice to see Wagner, a much malinged player by opposing fans in the B10 for his on court antics, have the character to break off his celebration to show respect to a member of the opposing team who just had his dreams dashed.
Thanks, Bobda. I had read about how the game ended. I didn't know about Wagner's gesture until you posted above. I like the kid. He's hard to like when he's your opponent and he's killing you, but I like Beilein. By extension, I like the players he recruits.
Thanks Bob. I was following on the gametracker, and kept waiting for the collapse, but these guys were having none of it. As far as I could tell... the Aggies pretty much outplayed the Heels across the board. Maybe they are returning to early season form... Big game with the Wolverweasels next!
