Down goes #2,Irish take down UNC. They are bigger inside but we just out hustled them, beat them to loose balls and made our free throws. Much different team than the one that played Miami on Wednesday.
New #1 is Villanova with fellow Big East school Xavier at #4. Texas A&M falls out of the Top 10 and Texas enters the top 25. Irish just outside the Top 25. Bet Villanova doesn't last at #1, it's going to be that kind of year.
Also if you're a womens game fan, we have a #1 vs #2 matchup tonight in UConn visiting South Carolina. UConn has been basically whacking everybody they play, So Carolina has recruited extremely well and Dawn Staley their coach is a rising star ...but Geno has better players and he's currently the best coach in the women's game. At home, maybe So. Car will play well and keep it close, maybe even win, more likely they'll lose and if they don't play well lose big.
Well it was pretty much no contest last night for UConn at So. Carolina. The final score was closer than the game really was, UConn clearly the better team. For them not to win their 4th NCAA championship in a row they will just have to have an off night when the opponent is on fire. Texas celebrated it's first top 25 ranking of the season by losing to OU at Norman, gave them a heck of a battle lost on a last second 3pt shot by All American Buddy Hield. Duke back on a bit of win streak, beat Louisville last night. Crazy year for the men.
Wow, the Aggies made it to # 5, and have since gone on a complete losing rampage. I could understand if the whole team was underclassmen, or we'd had a rash of injuries... but none of that applies.
#2 Maryland goes down at home and #3 Oklahoma goes down at home in the rematch with KU. It's tough at the top! Irish win an exciting game at home vs Rick Pitino and #13 Louisville. Texas after wining it's way into the top 25 this week, lost both games they played. Lost earlier this week to OU and lost tonight to a good Iowa State team. Duke had a good week and won a thriller on a last second basket by Grayson Allen. This is the time of the year to get hot.
I see that Iowa is back on top of the B10 and that Michigan State after beating IU looks like another team that is starting to play well at the right time of the year. All of the conferences look like dog fights, no team has been able to separate from the rest of the conference.
So in what other sport would a 5 game losing streak keep you in the top 25? Texas A&M is still in the top 25. Texas just climbed into the top 25 and promptly lost 2 games last week, granted OU and Iowa State are excellent this year so they aren't bad losses and didn't get them dropped from the top 25. Irish after being out of the poll for a couple of weeks climb back in on the backs of a 3 game winning streak vs UNC, Clemson and Louisville all very good wins. 'Nova continues as #1.
The talent is there, we just have to be consistent. The fact that LeVert did not play, helped us as well. Evan Turner's number retired at halftime.
Texas also got a big win last night over WVA, we've got 4 or 5 upsets over ranked teams. Bracketology has us as high as a #5. Shaka Smart quietly doing a good job remaking the team, he has the Freshmen playing well and contributing. Recruiting also going well.
Major upsets last night with Iowa losing to Penn State and Duke nips North Carolina in final seconds with a blocked shot.
Folks around here thought the sky was falling when IU lost to Penn State. Less than a week later, they have Penn State to thank for putting IU back in 1st....for now.
Minnesota upsets Maryland for their first conference win this evening. UConn defeats SMU. Michigan State is pummeling Wisconsin.
Well some big losses ...ND lost on the road to Ga.Tech at the buzzer, Texas got romped at home by Baylor and WVA got beaten by OU at home. Duke got beaten by Louisville and Coach K got a Technical. In a huge win for the Aggies they beat Kentucky in a wild finish where Kentucky player spiked the ball with them leading and getting a technical foul with less than 10 secs. #1 Villanova keeps rolling along though. Wild year in college basketball.
ND <t>Can't say I have a real zest for college basketball these days but as an old IU fan I completely enjoyed watching IU beat purdue last night. Only college game I've watched this season. Maybe they'll get rid of the one and done eventually. That and a 60 something team tournament field really make the regular season games so meaningless.</t>
